Hello! I’ve been trying to find something that I could use for a duck house that would also be moveable and I was thinking this Dog carrier. It is huge and would surely be enough room for the two ducks. My idea was to cover all the open wire and holes on the crate with hardwire cloth, install a more secure lock on the door, and prop it up on top of cinderblocks so nothing can burrow under. It is also big enough so no critter would be able to drag it away. Thoughts? Would this be safe? Ps this is only for night time, during the day they will be in a fenced in run.

Follow up questions: how high should my fencing around the run be? The guy at the feed store told me 36” is high enough but not sure

IDK about that kennel for a duck house. Can you not buy some wood and make one?

Maybe you could post a picture of your layout and where the dog house would go etc. I'd go 4' high at least for a fence.

So what breed of ducks do you have? How big would their run be?

I have two Cayugas. Their fenced in run is going to be about 36sqft and they will have some sort of duck house inside, I was going to build one but I’m just worried about one little mistake and it’s not secure at all. I’m thinking of maybe converting a chain-link kennel into a bird house with some hardwire cloth and little modifications instead of this kennel I posted.

If you can find a couple of free pallets for the floor and roof. Get a sheet of plywood for the floor and roof and use the rest for the sides and back. Get a few 2 x 4's for a frame you could easily build one yourself which would be bigger and more comfortable for them. You'd want to get some hardware cloth with 1/2" holes to cover any exposed areas that you'd leave for ventilation with that. That's really the only thing that will keep predators out.

Once you build it you will be able to see if there are any vulnerable areas of the house and you can address them one at a time. Block them off with hardware cloth or scraps of wood you've got leftover from the build.

Thank you so much! That would be much cheaper and more efficient for sure. Thank you!
