Dog needs put down. We would rather let him go peacefully at home.

I would use a shot gun before i gave them something from home..(like a med)..
Because if you give them a med, you can make them very sick.. and you dont want them sick and miserable before they die.... thats just not right.
So my advice, a mobile vet... or if you HAVE to..a gun that you REALLY know how to use...
either way.. its not an easy choice..

We had the vet come here to the house where she was comfortable.
She died peacefully on her favorite bed in her favorite spot with her head in my lap.
I was so glad we made the decision.

This is one of those tough things in life. Much tougher on the person I believe. I like your choice, hope you find a vet that will help you.

I don't have the heart to use a gun, and our too main vets in town don't do house calls. of the vets that go out to ranches, she lives a couple hours away, and only comes to our area occasionally, Thanks to everyone for responding though

I'm sorry for your situation. There isn't really anything OTC that would work without possibly making him sick. Going to the vet was not too stressful when I had to put my big boy down when he was losing his fight with cancer. We just went for one last ride in the car, which he loved. Some vets will come out to the car so you don't have to go in. It was a lot more stressful to watch him struggle to stand and walk than to take him in and let him go. Just my 2 cents worth. Good luck.

I just want to send hugs. I several years ago had to put our dog down. So I know how hard it is. If you cant get vet to make a house call call ask what you can do. Most vets do what they do because they love animals. For them it is rarely about money.
Praying for you, wish I was closer and able to help .

I don't know why the vets sometimes make it hard on us pet lovers.I've seen a lot of vets that would never do house calls.I don't think they are fully serving their clients if they can't come to your home in circumstances such as this.

I hope things work out.

I have tears in my eyes as I read this.....I have to have my best friend put down this weekend, and it's tearing me up inside. Unfortuneatly, I really don't have a choice but to take him to the vet. At least he knows everyone there: they've treated him from the day I got him and for the last 9 years. I have to have him cremated. I had so hoped that he would hold out till Spring, so I could bury him in the back yard, but the ground is frozen, and I can't bear the thought of having him wrapped up in a tarp and set aside until the ground thaws. I am sooooo very sorry you are going through this. Trust me, I know your pain.

Perhaps your vet will prescribe a high dose of valium or another sedative/tranquilizer that you can administer at home, then he won't be as aware and stressed when you take him in. There really isn't anything easy to give at home to provide a peaceful death, and this isn't something you want to try and have not work and have him waking up from. Anything oral you run the risk of it causing vomiting and therefore not having the desired effect. I would opt for getting him zonked out while at home, then take him in.

This is the hardest, kindest thing you can do
