Although I must admit I HATE when people give foods one star reviews cause their pet didn't like it... and that's their fault howwww??? :lau

He should be okay until tomorrow, he may have a fever so he seeking out a cooler surface. Could be the sting or bite left an abscess. I don't necessarily feel right handing out vet advice, but you can usually give dogs plain regular aspirin for pain, though some get an upset stomach from it. Otherwise I would wait until tomorrow, but I know it's hard to do that.

If you give buffered aspirin that should prevent the upset stomach. The vet had me give buffered aspirin to my old Basset Hound. It has been so many years now I have forgotten what for.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind for the future :)

He's going to the vet soon now so I won't bother today but maybe if it keeps up

Okay so the vet isn't really sure what's wrong but he's putting him on steroids, eye drops, and an antibiotic. His eye is a little crusty. Under his neck is just classic hot spots. He says his actual eye is fine, it seems to be just like his eye lid. I think the steroid is to help break the itchy/scratchy cycle, the eye drops are obviously for his eye, and the antibiotic is to hopefully dry up his hot spots and they should scab over and heal. The steroid is 1/2 tablet twice daily for 3 days, once daily for 3 days, then every other day till we run out. The eye drops are 2 drops twice a day for 7 days. The antibiotic is 1.5 tabs once a day for 10 days. He said we don't need to put anything on topically but we can.

And he was very good and only let out one small growl when he went to look under his neck. Obviously not appropriate but better than usual and he probably remembered him muzzling him twice and taking his temperature a while ago LOL he needed no muzzle or sedatives though. He just looked at his neck from across the room.

Anyway, so yeah, I'm excited it's nothing major.

He's also down 10 pounds from last time. He's 127. We think that's better on his hips though. Although I would like to see him at like 130 maybe. Idk.

HOWEVER.

The vet said the sunken in head and more pronounced crown could be some sort of muscle loss or disorder :/ like myositis or something :/

We gotta watch and see for other signs and he's going to read up on it too since it's not very common but it's degenerative.

I really hope that's not what it is and he's just skinny from not eating much but then again he said that there's really not much fat there, it's mostly muscle. :/

See above his eyes? :(

Well now you have me slightly worried about my dog food, I will watch for those symptoms and will look into it more, I have been thinking about switching to Acana, but they have been doing so well on TOTW. We have always bought a bag or two ahead of time so that by the time we feed it others would have reported a problem with it. Thanks for the heads up, I wasn't aware the complaints were recent.

Gator was a big lug as a pup, how cute.

Hopefully he doesn't start wetting from the steroids, is it a steady dose? Temporary dose? It should help him to feel better, now I got to look up his potential disorder, never heard of it.

Okay I read all the complaints on the one website you shared, but could not find anywhere else where people have been complaining about TOTW, so my looking into it continues as I wouldn't want 5 sick dogs, but I don't want to worry unnecessarily either.

Sorry, didn't mean to worry you! But yeah, I'd definitely at least watch but i wouldn't necessarily rush to change if your dogs have done well on it and been fine so far.

Acana is expensive, right? But a great food, though i heard they made the bags smaller or put more water in it or something ha idk. People always find something to complain about though and it's still better than lots of foods out there :)

But if you want, I have tons of recommendations, including some lesser known brands, or cheaper but still great, ones if you want. We switched the pets to better food starting like summer 2014 and we switch monthly, whether brand or just flavor, as well as having bought smaller bags to try of many kinds, so we've tried just about every food out there :lau

Right!? He was huge yet adorable. I love the ones with the shoe, that was from when I got back from college for the first time, fall 2012. He was so excited. :) but anyway, thank you :)

It's just for like 9 days or so I think, the antibiotics are 10 days, and the eye drops are 7 days. So I think it's all just temporary to help with his sting and hot spots. I'm wondering of it's not some sort of immune system thing from the sting though and not that or if this thing is why the eye/hot spots are so slow to heal. Idk.

But yeah, I hadn't heard of the thing either

And yeah, that's the weird thing, no reviews elsewhere. I mean, I think Consumer Reports is pretty reputable right? But anybody can post and why aren't there reviews elsewhere? Some people said they bought from Chewy.com but I didn't see bad reviews there? If it was me, I would post there too. So idk. I definitely wouldn't worry too much unless your dogs start getting sick but definitely keep an eye out for the symptoms and that liver thing. But I wouldn't rush to change. But you buying bags in advance might be part of why you haven't experienced issues yet.

Acana is expensive, that's why I haven't switched to it yet. I think I will wait and see, I do sniff every new bag, and watch to see if they are eating it. I became obsessed over dog food a few years back when I lost a couple of dogs pretty close together for various reasons, I started researching dog foods and ingredients. I may take that hobby back up now, I kinda enjoyed it.

I will take any brand recommendations you want to give me. Fromm looked good but got some average reviews, I tried Earthborn and my dogs had runny poops and anal gland problems, probably from too many peas for fillers, I did 4 health than moved up to TOTW and saw such good results that I stopped there.

Gator should feel much better after all his pills, hopefully that fixes him. How much did he weigh as a pup?

Puppies love shoes, they smell delicious I guess, my current boxer used to collect a pile of them around her if I left her for a little bit.
