Dog thread!🐾

I’m thinking a diet and more exercise LOL And definitely NO PEOPLE FOOD anymore or at least WAY less LOL I might not even need diet food or start feeding him less if I can just reduce/eliminate the extra calories from people food LOL he’s always going to get some treats from my family, my nurses, etc. but that’s fine and not a huge deal nor very many calories. It’s the people food that’s the killer LOL

Does he get more people food than dog food? If not I wouldn't think that is the main problem.

It probably wouldn’t hurt. I would say maybe age but Chase is older and he has no problems with weight. Maybe activity level or being neutered. He is isn’t he?

Have you tried feeding him to his energy requirements with allowance for the additional food? Like actually calculating his daily calorie requirements?

I don’t think so? But IDK. I’ve never actually calculated it LOL but he basically gets a bite (or a FEW bites  ) of every single thing I eat. As long as it’s dog safe obviously. Sometimes I give him a TON of my sandwiches if I can’t finish them LOL that’s rare now though cause I just refrigerate it for later now. :lau

Yeah all he does is sleep all day and go on relatively SHORT walks with me LOL and he is neutered. He ballooned after his neuter 2 years ago when I wasn’t paying attention to how much he ate and was letting him eat like 4-5+ cups a day just cause his appetite increased a bunch. Yeah, well, it was my job to control his food and manage his appetite and I didn’t. I realized eventually and cut him back. To 4 cups. Then 3. Now 2 finally as of probably early this year? Late last year?. it took me 2 years to not be a dumbass LOL and I STILL am in a way with the people food. I also switched him to mealtimes too instead of just free feeding, even measured free feeding (measuring the daily amount but letting him eat whenever). He’s got meal times now. He still SLIGHTLY free fed in that I don’t pick it up if he doesn’t eat it so for example he can choose to eat breakfast or not. And sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn’t. Sometimes he prefers waiting until dinner time to eat both cups LOL other time he chows down breakfast. but yeah. Sorry , I know you didn’t ask ANY of that LOL

I think I did a while ago but I just redid it with his current weight and including just his food and then one with a guess of the treat calories included and then one blank. I also did it based on different numbers on the chart to see LOL including the treat calories it’s 1.9-2 cups which is what he’s currently getting (2 cups). With some of the other input things it said like 1.6 cups and one said 1.4 cups but that was when I said he was VERY fat LOL when I chose the actual one it was more realistic. But I’m thinking of trying 1.5 cups. Cause right now he gets 2 cups PLUS all the treats, people food, dental chew, etc. so I’m thinking maybe I need to cut back on his actual food calories to allot for the additional calories from the other stuff? IDK. I don’t want to starve him or anything but clearly 2 cups isn’t really doing anything. But his food is also fairly high calorie (405 kcal/cup).

You can never have too much information😁 so yeah maybe just a combination of everything. I still don’t think he’s too fat but maybe just some changes to keep him from gaining more
