I figured he would have gotten worse, which was why I was curious. He isnt. But our vet and trainer advised against it.
Yeah, neutering seems to make fear reactivity worse. Thatās interesting, Iām kind of the same way though. Well, Iām not sure why I believeOur trainer because she said the last reactive dog she worked with got neutered qnd his reactivity got worse.
Our vet advises against spaying and neutering in general. Something very different from our old vet
Ik this wasn't aimed at me but I believe if you are going to fix it should be after 2 years at least, especially for large dogs. Willow probably isn't getting done till 3 or 4 if she ever gas a heat...I figured he would have gotten worse, which was why I was curious.

Well, Iām not sure why I believeI definitely agree that fearful dogs shouldnāt be fixed and that puppies shouldnāt either. Iām not sure about older dogs though. If you have a loose dog that unsupervised outside and not fenced then I definitely think you should too. But if youāre responsible (and yes I know things happen) then it might be best for them not to be. Your opinion?
If fixing a dog it should be after 2 years. For females after first heat as long as your responsible. Females can get pyometra which i would worry about. Males if you can keep them intact forever do so. Being responsible is most important. If your dog is loose/outside unsupervised then fix it.I figured he would have gotten worse, which was why I was curious.

I want everyoneās opinion!!!Ik this wasn't aimed at me but I believe if you are going to fix it should be after 2 years at least, especially for large dogs. Willow probably isn't getting done till 3 or 4 if she ever gas a heat...
Thatās pretty much exactly what I believe too. I wasnāt seriously considering Chase because I feel like it is better for his health if I donāt, but I was just wondering about it.If fixing a dog it should be after 2 years. I have kept Denver and Tucker seperated. They are both intact. And Denver will probably be spayed now whether regular or a ovary sparing.
Tucker is mine and will come with me.
So i agree
I kinda prefer not doing it for as long as possible, there is benefits and cons both ways. For large dogs I'd probably do it at 6 or 7 of I didn't do it earlier for some reason. I've debated that as well for willow. I personally think on adulthood it's best to be intact for health and energy but I also worry about pyrometra (if I spelled that right..) for my femalesI want everyoneās opinion!!!totally agree with that. What do you think about older dogs? Past the 2 year mark?
my familyās last golden got pyometra and nearly died. Iāve seen 2 pyometra surgeries at the vet and itās crazy! The uterus is HUGE!! A normal uterus is tiny, just a little scrap of tissue. If the male dog is 5 or above i wouldnt even worry. Keep him intacted.
For a female id worry more you have pyometra. Which is why Denver will be spayed.
