Dog thread!🐾

Yeah! Although he doesn't really do things with other people very often, mostly with me because I do get really bad anxiety and he knows how to bring my meds if I need them. Like if I'm having a panic attack or I'm really stressed out. I can ask him to get his basket with my meds. I really do love him and he sleeps with me every night!
Thats great! there are a lot of tasks they can do for anxiety

AD/SD are amazing! And sometimes helpful in ways I don’t expect 😆. We where at a charity shop and I bumped one of the plastic sign things with the price on it off a chest of drawers, right behind this chest of drawers was another one and next to them was a table. I would either need to try and lean other the chest of drawers or crawl under the table to get it 😅 which I didn’t not want to do! Fanta watched it drop then went under the table picked it up and brought it out! I have not worked on her picking up random objects that I have dropped

so useful! So much less stress for me!

That's amazing, Ozzy is kinda small for picking up larger things but a small basket with my meds is perfect for him. I'm actually one of three people he will let pick him up without him being crazy and flailing around! One time I gad an absolutely horrible day at school and I went to go clean out the coop. However I couldn't do anything without something going wrong so that made me extra stressed out. And then on my way back I tripped and fell down the stairs! When I finally got inside I tried to calm down on the couch and once Ozzy saw I was stressed he jumped right up onto the couch and he put his head on my lap. He really did help me not snap under the stress from the day. Is your dog a service dog or therapy dog?

Chickens and birds in general can also help alot with stress, I actually have an aviary and sometimes I will just sit down and relax listening to the birds and watching the life in the aviary grow! It's also fun to sit in the sun because sometimes my chickens will sunbathe right next to me! It's fun, but the sun burns aren't and I can't ever remember to put on sunscreen. My ADHD is kinda annoying because I can't ever remember what I need to do and it's very easy for me to get distracted or loose track of time!

Absolutely, birds are super relaxing!

Fanta is a service dog. In case of confusion, in the uk they are called assistance dogs which is why I normally call service dogs assistance dogs

Fanta does tasks for my Autism , Adhd and dyspraxia (or whats probably dyspraxia). She mostly is for the dyspraxia I haven't actually heard of any other ADs trained for it!

It's cool that Fanta is trained to help you with that!

I really just try to de stress by closing my eyes and listening to them Chirp away and watch as they build their nests or see how the flock gets along and watching the fish hunt down their prey! It's also fun for me because I have quail that love eating treats and on named Pancake will hop in my lap and she will let me pet her if I give her treats. Ozzy had a pretty crazy pret drive for birds so he can't be near them sadly. However Ozzy is very good at listening on the leash and he will actually try to not engage with other dogs and he will stay by my side. Unless of course if I tell him he can run off, but him being old he doesn't like ruff housing or running too much. How old is Fanta?

I only found out today that service dogs can be for Autism. I guess I thought SD for more for physical things, can you explain what a task for your autism would look like? (If you're happy to talk about it)

Fanta is about 14 months old, still in training! Dogs are one if the things she struggles with since we see them so infrequently😅

I am happy to tell you! She doesn't do many autism tasks for me, I know there are more things they can do then she does for me! And it can be difficult for me to remember whats adhd and whats autsim!

Some of her tasks
-Finding people I am with
-Finding a exit
- finding the car
-I frequently can't talk so I am teaching her to bump people I am with to get their attention
-playing with her to de-stress
-company

There are tasks that aren't directly related to autsim but help me not to get overwhelming, for instance one of her tasks is to tell me if I leave my bag somewhere by mistake, so I have one less thing to worry about!

Tasks over people do
-interrupting scratching
-deep pressure therapy

There are more have forgotten about!

Wow! She's really smart for her age! Normally some calm down around 2-3 years but other calm down faster. It's all about their personality and overall aging and becoming chill adults, imho. Ozzy had always been calm, but he only started being non interested in playing with other dogs when he got old. When he was younger it was the fact that he was trained to behave that way for shows!
