Tbh I think responsible breeding can do great things, so I don't think ethically bred pugs half breathe. Maybe 1/4 breathe
I don't see how the well-bred pugs or even Bostons in the show rings can breathe well. Apparently Bostons with very smushed-in faces conform to the standard. I find it sad, but I've never met a show Boston or Pug so what do I know?

It's not just about how smushed the face is. It's about the airways, and how open the nostrils are, something most BYB pugs, Frenchies, bulldogs, etc. I've never met a well bred pug or Boston either, but I've met a lot of longer snouted dogs with breathing problems

Yeah it depends. Plenty of smushed face dogs breathe fine and plenty of longer snouted dogs don’t. It’s all about the BOAS rating.

Granted I will say this. I've never met a dolichocephalic dog with breathing issues, that said I've only met three dolichocephalic dogs. But they probably don't experience it as much anyways. That's one of the reasons I'm partial to the Chis (and the Bostons, a little less though), is because even though they're brachycephalic, breathing problems with them are not bad at all

Yeah that makes sense

Spot, what's happening with the XL bullies? I've been reading that they're probably getting banned?
Yes they are getting banned, thankfully they aren’t being taken and put down!

as far as I understand you will have to register that you have one, neuter (spay/castrate) them, muzzle them in public places, keep them on leash and you can’t sell them. I am not sure about rehoming I don’t understand how it would work if you can’t rehome the dog at all

it is because there has been a recent increase (last 5 years about) in dog attacks and large majority of the fatal dog attacks where XL bullies or XL bully crosses

What's your stance on this? Personally I have no opinion, I've never looked into the breed

I kind of am for the ban which is a very controversial opinion

lots of people don’t understand their dogs breeds instinct thats been bred into the them specially bully breed owners. XL bullies are large strong dogs that as far as I understand have a high prey drive and some level of protective instinct, they also have the strong, latch on and hold on jaws. so many owners don’t seem to understand this.

its rare to see somebody that actually understands dog body language, is responsible and has well trained dogs. I went to a large pet dog show the amount of growling, unfriendly body language I saw:thand the owners just ignored their dogs! Or just said “oh he’s never done that before“. I saw one dog that was getting corrected for barking and pulling, every time the owner yanked on the leash the dog would turn round and all most try to bite them!

the other thing is the breed isn’t accepted here so no conformation shows, dog sports aren’t that popular specially ones that XL bullies would be good for. So how many ethical breeders compared to none ethical breeders are there?

and what else can the government do? Some people say permit for getting any dog but

1. a lot of people own dogs in the uk A LOT

2. The dog training/showing community would be happy to do that but what about the just plain pet owners? who aren’t part of the community. I don’t think they would be happy to suddenly need to jump through so many hoops to get their family pet, they won’t understand why it’s necessary
