Hey does anyone know exactly when in a dogs heat cycle are they supposed to be bred

I’ve been part of several matings between dogs and it just seems to vary so so much. One dog was day 5, one dog was day 7, one would only conceive if she was bred on day 11. I just don’t know anymore

Take them to a vet to measure the ovulation. And thats when you breed. I think it is day 10 to 14 for most retrievers. But for smaller or larger breeds it can be a big difference.

I’ve heard this too but only one time did I assist in that type where that did two separate matings a day apart

I dont know. Ive never bred a dog. And dont plan to for some time.

Very well may. My family has only bred small dogs (except dalmatians many years ago), and I'm assuming we've done that same thing for the Tenterfields, the cavaliers, and the chihuahuas (I only ever have anything to do with the Tentie breeding).
Talking to a vet knowledgeable about dog breeding would probably be very beneficial.
