Well our intro to stock went really well!! I chose an aggressive Ram, aged 9 months give it take a cpl weeks, around 65lbs. Some of y’all may be wondering “why on earth would she choose an aggressive sheep for the first lesson?” Well I’ve got two answers for that…
1. Aspen has already shown a protective nature, she’s driven off one of my aggressive bucks before when she saw him getting in my space.
2. My other sweet, gentle-natured stock doesn’t want to be moved by a dog, theyd rather cuddle with Aspen🤣
I had a cattle panel round pen already erected and stuck my rather grumpy ram in there with me and Aspen. I cued a couple direction changes to get her warmed up and circling, then directed my Ram to the middle. She’s a VERY smart dog and quickly picked up on keeping the Ram in the center. He charged her a couple times and she retaliated by doing a quick nose bite and driving him off. We finished up by opening the pen and directing him out the door. Overall I’m very happy with her response timing.

I read this today and am very confused now because Aspen is a red tri and has dual blue eyes without even a hint of brown in them...

What color eyes do Red tri Aussies have?

Red tri Aussies have amber-colored eyes which vary from light brown to yellow. Eye color is determined by genetics and depends on the genes a puppy inherits from both of its parents.

Can a Red tri Aussie have blue eyes?

No, a Red tri Aussie cannot have blue eyes. This is because the Red tri Aussie lacks the genes that modify eye color to blue.

I wouldn’t trust some random blog. Clearly it’s wrong anyway since Aspen has blue eyes.

Well i was confused bc someone said to make sure Aspen wasn’t a hidden Merle? What is a hidden Merle?
They can technically be genetically Merle and not show it or just have like a teeny tiny tiny patch on a paw or behind an ear or something. It’s complicated but there are genetic tests you can buy for Merle.
