Dog thread!🐾

Dorie is currently on Wellness CORE Digestive Health Chicken and Brown Rice and has been on it for at least a year. Her poops are semi-firm (which is a big win for her) but she seems to have bad acid reflux. When she has diarrhea she gets Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets EN Gastroenteric Fiber Balance. This food causes her anal glands to fill up and leak. :sick

I believe we've tried another food from the Purina Pro Plan line, one from Blue Buffalo, Diamond Naturals (which is what Luna is on), Purina Puppy Chow, and a couple others. All of them gave her diarrhea or "soft serve" poop and I introduce new foods VERY SLOWLY.
Oh gosh!! That sounds awful!!! I’m sorry!! I would definitely try Purina One or Dog Chow. Often times the Pro Plan can be too rich for a lot of dogs. It’s got a lot of fat and protein which can be great for working dogs but not necessarily pets. I love Purina One personally but we loved Dog Chow too. And they have a lot of different kinds you can try if one doesn’t work. Although Purina One also has a lot of kinds.

You also might want to try probiotics. Purina Pro Plan Fortiflora is on sale until tomorrow at Chewy. Proviable is another good one that some say is better than the Fortiflora.

We've tried both of those multiple times and I didn't notice a huge difference and they're expensive. The reason I got the Wellness CORE Digestive Health food is because it's coated in probiotics.

Ahh okay that makes sense! Sorry  a lot of people don’t know so I thought I’d suggest it but yeah. That said, the deal is really good atm, like $18 instead of $30 but I understand if you don’t want to try it again.

No, it's alright! Thank you for trying to help! I consult my vet a lot, although a lot of what they have suggested hasn't worked. Dorie has a lot of bad days and it makes me so sad, but she's had more good days lately.

You’re welcome! And that makes sense but that sucks. I’m sorry. :hugs

Leila had a vet appointment yesterday, she follow me around the clinic for a few hours while I sorted out some stuff.

I definitely understand the struggle with some dogs and their digestion. My little dog was like that. It was a lifetime management issue. Once you find something that works you definitely don't want to mess with it.

Dogs can take a daily antacid. Has you vet suggested trying one? Sometimes they help, sometimes they don't.

Used to be if my dog had a good food day, I had a good day.

Yeah, I plan to ask my vet about an antacid at her next annual appointment. I didn't want to make an appointment just for that, so I've been waiting. I am definitely a little afraid of trying a new food right now. Don't want to make her very sick again if I can help it.

You have only had Marshmellow for 2 months so she still is settling in

by not listening what do you mean? Are they not pay attention to you everywhere or specific places?

it will take time! Everything is still very new to her and she is learning, dog training takes time some dogs pick up on things quickly others need more time. I wouldn’t expect too much from her at the moment, give her more time to bond with you and settle in

are you doing training sessions with only one at a time? If not then thats one place to start

the other things you could try

-settling together
teach them to go to their beds, separately at first. Then do it with both dogs together (You can separate them with a gate at first)

-if you have a extra person you can try going on a walk with both dogs, the aim would be that they sniff and ignore each other

-play with the dogs when they are together and when they aren’t

-treats every time the pay attention to you when they are together

you might need to do these things with 1 dog at a time then try with both

I hope this helps!
That poster is very true. she is def going to take a little more work, but i dont mind one bit.

i will tackle these questions a few at a time :)

he has turned off his ears both at home and outside.

she has come a very long way on her own and we're very proud of her. She just seems so bored a lot of the time. I want to keep her engaged without overwhelming her but dont know how except for teaching tricks(ish). When the weather is better i make them stay out for a while. Thats where she keeps most of the toys anyway 🤣
