Dog thread!🐾

The kokonia are recognized at least in Greece...
They are more of companion breed of dog...
The alopekides on the other hand are the oldest breed of Europe at least thats what I have read and is more of a jack of all trades dog breed.
Its a companion, watchdog, tiny lgd, hunter of rodents etc an all around farm dog in little package...
Unfortunately because of mass sterilizations they are almost extinct!

Ohhhhh okay that’s cool!!! Thanks for the info! That sucks they’re almost extinct though!

I am a little late but...
How about alopekis?
Not a recognized breed yet but has everything you asked for, i think...

The alopekis-kokoni thing has always confused me. I can't find any statements from either KOE, or any well known judge on the matter. Since the breed isn't accepted into its country of origin, I worry that it never will be. Where did you find information about them?

Interesting! Kokonia have way too much energy for me...and if alopekides are even less companion-esque than them, wouldn't they have even more energy?

When I was young my family had a non pedigree female German shepherd not very big the size of a malinois.
She was the smartest dog I ve met in person.
And very protective!
Now I don't own a dog but I want one in the future.
Every now and then I keep changing my mind on the breed.
I would like sth like a bigger standard schnauzer that can tolerate heat better, or a bigger mudi or a bigger Irish terrier.
But I would have to settle for two dogs a small all around farm dog and a big lgd.
Sport I would like to do (not competitive) is carting.
I love the idea of bringing firewood to house with a big dog...lol
