Dog thread!🐾

He'll get there eventually! Some dogs just have a harder time losing weight.
It’s my fault cause I was way over feeding him for a while plus not walking him but now we’ve been walking again plus I cut back his food and treats. So we’ll get there. He also used to run around constantly with his friends which helped keep him in shape but they’re not really around anymore.

How do you get them to lose weight!?
Cut back the food about 1/2 cup but add in green beans, broccoli, carrots.
Try walking atleast 1 mile a day(start with half a mile if you haven't walked a lot). Super low calorie treats. I have treats that are less than 2 cal a treat.
Ive heard swimming helps(but i dont have a place for them to swim).

Currently doing all this with Denver and she went from 85lbs to 80 and im still working her down some.

You're doing it right - cut back on food and increase exercise. Make sure you measure out the food and feed less at meals if you gave treats (it makes it easier to know how much to feed if you use his kibble as treats). Adding veggies like @Ilovemychicks08 mentioned can help him feel less hungry. It can take months! If that doesn't work there are weight management dog foods you could try too.

I found adding veggies helped so much, our vet told us to do the green beans and broccoli.
Weight management foods can be pricy

Thanks!! I tried to cut him back to 2 cups but realistically it was still 3-4 cups because he would eat it all and then I would add 2 more cups and then he would eat some more. so I need to get serious about 2 cups ONLY and if he’s hungry or eats it all too fast, too bad LOL or I could try 1 1/2 cups but I really feel that is too low for him. I think 2 cups is perfect IF I stick to it and don’t give him 3-4 plus a whole can plus people food plus treats  I did already cut out the cans at least though mostly because I ran out but still. Not sure he’d eat veggies in his food lol but maybe.

We do the small loop but not sure how many miles it is. Less than a mile I know that. Might even be less than half.

He gets treats from my team but I won’t cut that out because it’s the only treats he gets and brings everybody joy. My dad occasionally gives him a half a milk bone to drop the ball lol

I WILL cut out ALL people food though no matter how much he begs and looks cute lol so hard but necessary.

He HATES water so no swimming here LOL lots of places to swim too though, ironically.

Anyway, thank you!!!!

I do actually already have a bag because he was on one previously but I was gonna donate it because we can’t go through it in the recommended time frame and I have a smaller bag of another kind of food I switched too instead. It’s higher calorie though so he gained when we switched
