Denver and Willow sound very similar
Denver would do that to. Although she still rolls around throwing a tantrum.

Age helped a lot after a year and a half she now longer did it. It did take training, like no jump and nobody could pet her until she sat.

That's what I've been doing, I also started using a slip lead on her and it's been helping.

Our Pom had it, we also had to massage her leg and then she was fine. She lived to 18 about! it never seemed to bother her

Thanks! How often did it happen? It's happening to Dorie multiple times per day right now and she's in a lot of pain before I massage it.

I would be worried about sit-stand being too much. There are exercises where you have a pole or something similar just high enough so they pick up their feet. Or you can do like for the horses, poles on the ground, it might be less stress on the joints then bending the knees all the way, definitely less painful/stressful on mine

Swimming would be great, if it is possible

Thats worrying, It happened to her very rarely and I don't remember her showing any major signs of pain. I hope you can find ways to help Dorie!

Our terrier mix Hazel. She just turned 1 last month. Shes excited when she sees the chickens but they are in the coup and she sits outside looking in lol. But she doesn’t bark at them. She’s more curious.

Thanks...it's what I get for adopting a BYB Boston... I know a vet visit would be a good idea but I'm very reluctant to take her right now. If the exercises don't help then I will take her in. The thought of having surgery done on my Dorie really scares me...

the Pom was adopted too... patella laxation is common in Pomeranians. surgery is really scary, I am scared about even just getting hip and elbow x-rays for Pepsi . Twiggy has hip issues, vet just told us to monitor it, no surgery, Pikelet has pain killers, at the moment no mention of surgery, so there is hope of not needing it!

Mine was 7 when she had it done and she did okay. Are you sure it's the knee popping out? I've had dogs tear their ACL. Those I've had good luck healing with rest, and pain medication.

If she's had luxating patella all along it is different than an injury that moves it out of position. The ligament gets stretched out and it will never stay in from my understanding.

The fact that I can feel the muscles around her knee pop into place and she is totally fine afterwards has me thinking it's her kneecap. I also had a dog with injured cruciate ligaments and she could barely get up, stand, and walk and would tap her back feet on the floor while she stood still. Dorie isn't doing that.

It is possible it's an injury. She had the same sort of thing happen years ago, but it didn't last nearly as long.

Tips for focus? We have tried training her to look in my eye or at me when I say her name, she'll do it at home but once we get any distractions it's gone. We have been persistent with it.

It is possible it's an injury. She had the same sort of thing happen years ago, but it didn't last nearly as long.

Mine was initially injured at just about a year old during some rough play. Than 6 years later another incident. The first time I put it back in, and she favored it for a while. So it's possible it can heal.

I usually give mine about 2 weeks to see if they improve or not before making an appointment. I do have pain medication on hand and will get them in sooner if it's too uncomfortable for them.
