Dog Tired of Excuses

Fact is most people in life don't know what they're doing.

I bet if you asked everybody who has dog flock issues how many times a day do they walk their dog they would respond back with I let them go in the backyard.

People train dogs through humans eyes and not dogs eyes. On top of that for the most part people can't even train themselves!!

humans have became fat, lazy, stupid. I was feeding my ducks some tadpoles and my neighbor said she couldn't watch. but yet she so buys meat/dairy from a disgusting industry, lol, but you can't watch Ducks natural eating tadpoles...

Man people are funny...

I didn't even have to train my pitbull to not eat my ducks or chickens or geese. She definitely tries to run after some when shes bored but she's never put her mouth or even touched one.

I feel like it's the same as far as people who keep their flock in a small enclosed area everybody has Predators some more than others but to keep him in a small confined area is just cruel imo.

Joel salatin has over 2000 Acres and yes his Birds are in electric fence but they're free-ranging and are moving around on new grass every day!

I appreciate all your guyses frustration I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks there's a lot of dumb dog owners

Joel Saldin doesn't have predators. There are too many people camping out and pooping there for predators to hang around. He has a throng of "interns" that do all his work for free, just so they can have the street cred when they open up their "pastured chicken" business. Too bad it won't help them when they try to sell something that is super easy to raise to a client base that most of which who are concerned enough to not want storebought chicken are already raising their own. So yeah, most of the larger predators are too creeped out to walk through human waste or hop over sleeping bags to get to the chickens, and the smaller predators are too full of granola crumbs to bother with the birds.

Do you happen to have pics of your poultry set up? Can you elaborate on your dog training? I have read your posts regarding dog training (past and present threads) with no real direction on how you train dogs. Even walking a dog needs to be done properly.
This post is very judgemental of people in general with no real facts or solutions.

I'll post the duck set up when I'm finished it's kind of a mess I'm a little embarrassed to show it at this point but I should be done within the next week or two it's a mobile duck tractor!!

You are one hundred percent I don't really talk about my dog training much because everytime I've ever said in the last 10 years people tell me that I don't know what I'm talking about.. and maybe I don't maybe I just have such a strong connection with my dogs that me talking to them in English they understand and I think that I'm training on but in reality they just listen to me because they understand what I'm saying...

It is very judgemental! I thought this was more of a venting type of post that everybody was venting and I was just join in and venting on my frustration that people have when it comes to train their dogs it wasn't directed to anyone specifically, definitely not you.

It's surprisingly windy today so I don't know how the videos going to come out but I'll take some video of me and some ducks and the dog.

What it really comes down to its your dog needs to trust you and needs to know your the pack leader and even though you might be an awkward situation that moment the dog needs to have trust that you're going to make sure he gets out okay ( not sure if that made any sense). If there's any specific questions you might have feel free nothing will offend me (as long as you don't talk bad about my dog n ducks)!

Once you get it all set up, I would love to see it.
I just don't think that everyone can do the same thing as we all have different backyards (as well as ideas and opinions). But, sharing ideas is always a good thing because even if we can't do it exactly as recommended, we can glean ideas to modify our own set up. My ducks aren't of laying age yet - but my chickens are laying rather healthy delicious eggs and they are in a run all day. I supplement vegetation, dirt, branches, etc to keep them happy layers.
As far as dog training I agree that a good stimulating walk is the key to a happy healthy dog.
Your post kind of reminded me of the kid's movie Wall-E where the people have become fat and lazy (very political message for a kid's movie). However, on the byc forum, I would venture to guess that most people are trying to do better - otherwise why would they bother to even raise animals in their backyard?

This morning I looked out my window and saw 3 large dogs in my front pasture. I hollered at them and they left. I lost 3 ducks a couple of years ago to a pack of dogs. I won't let that happen to my chickens. I love dogs but sometimes they pay the price of irresponsible owners.

100% that people on this board are not only trying to do better to animals by raising them humanely but by eating better quality food!

My statement was more of where our Society is heading these days.

Before I quit my job on Wall Street as investment banker we were doing a lot of deals with bio pharmaceutical companies that wanted to make a lot of drugs to cure things like Nash( non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) and help with diabetes.

For example people over 300 pounds typically have Nash ( alcoholic fatty liver diseas) but you only need to lose 7% of your body weight and start becoming active for it to start reversing the effects. 7% of 300 pounds is 21 pounds To lose 21 lb when your 300 pounds is really not that hard.

So instead of promoting losing weight and healthy they're just trying to make a drug and Fda is all about that.

I miss the days of being a ignorant 6 year old. Ignorance is truly bliss..

You should call your Township or local authorities you're paying taxes you are a member of society there's no reason why you have to deal with these sort of things!

Could not agree more with those that blame dog owners for NOT training their dogs! Here is Raven early in her training to share a snack with a squirrel. She easily co-exists with rabbits, squirrels, deer, and yes, chickens. No excuse for poor manners for your dog except you being lazy.

Chickens are new in our family. My dog was way too excited at first .Now he just wants to see what they are doing. I am working on him not really caring about what they are doing. Behaviors can be changed with patience and consistency.
