Dog training thread

The other day I was doing long stays and blind stays with willow off leash. She was doing great, but one time after I was like 15 feet away she started to get up, so I have her a verbal correction and she laid back down and was good. Anyway I was pretty proud of her reaction to that correction. She also heeled on and off leash that day and did lots of recall all great
Awwww yay!!! Good willow!

Recently I found a local dog trainer who would actually be happy to have my pit bull terrier in her classes! Now that she's almost eleven years old! She was an abuse case, dumped at a shelter with infected wounds and seriously malnourished, a fighting dog reject. We've had her for eight years, a very sweet dog who took a long time to get though her abusive beginnings, but a 'PTSD' individual in so many ways. No trainers anywhere near here would have a 'reactive' dog in their classes, where harnesses and cookies are the norm for training...
So, this new place does 'working dog' and basic obedience, and tracking dog classes, so it's been really interesting all around.
Little Bella arrived the first night, look at the people with their dogs on leash, and wanted to attack every dog present! I'm sure her last event with individuals and dogs on leash outside, was to dog fights! Over that first evening class, she improved 95%, listened to me, believed that "leave it!" meant just that, and got better every week. A couple of other dogs in the class were way more out of control than mine!
We are both creaky old ladies, so tracking and some of the police type obstacles were beyond us, but still, a very good experience, and hope to take her to more classes there.
Our other rescue dog is too disabled to go to even a basic class, sadly.

I'm glad to hear that training is going well!
