I was walkung a Rottie at night one time. A shady-looking character on the other side of the street called across to me: Does your dog bite? Mongo was just a big puppy and would no more bite someone than he would sprout wings and fly, but I hollered back: Only when I tell him to. The guy nodded and kep walking.

One situation where I can't avoid petting is at work, she's loose and it's inevitable my coworkers will pet her. Thankfully they know how to deal with dogs

I'd just explicitly tell them "hey, you can't just pet my dog without asking, especially when she's working"

I often put a muzzle on my dog if I'm walking through a sketchy area, as it makes people think twice about approaching me. If that doesn't work, I've taught him to bark on command, though it doesn't sound as intimidating as the bark of a German shepherd that I used to have

Well when I'm at work she's not really working or even with me at all times. I usually have her in the little play area inside, it's like a blocked area with a 5 foot wall, and let her chill till I can groom her. I don't mind them petting her then because she's not with me and I know they won't let her be nonsensical. I only have an issue with people petting her if she's with me

Random but one of my favorites… “cat” means there is a cat near by and have fun chasing it one my walk today I saw a cat up ahead and his reaction is so funny when I say cat immediately looked around then took off when he saw it. But I don’t know what was wrong with the stupid cat it barely moved. I had to call him off because he would have caught it.
