Dog with fleas

One capstar pill will kill fleas within 24 hours. But you will have to treat your house, possibly the yard and change flea prevention. I use Revolution, Advantage and Frontline Plus and switch each time I buy. I usually have off months (Dec, Jan and Feb) where we don't use anything. We just use DE around the perimeter of the yard and where we walk our dogs.

Thank you all for your opinions! So far I have several votes for Comfortis and a few for Advantix.

If you have carpeting, you need to treat that as well, the heat your sweeper makes will cause eggs to hatch...i found for carpet treatment, use simple iodized salt mixed with borax and sprinkle it on the carpet. Use a broom to work it deep and leave it on for 24-48 hours then run your sweeper. The salt dries their bodies out and the borax kills the eggs. I didnt believe it untill i was at the end of my ropes in Maryland. No matter what i used, frontline, capstar, sprays in the yard, sprays on the carpet, flea bombs ..you name it.. i used it. We lived on Sands Road if that tells you anything. We had something they called sand fleas which are in my opinon much more annoying and persistant than your typical fleas. When you use your sweeper, empty it or remove the bag right away and dispose of it outside. Even pour some flea powder or borax and salt in the cup/bag before using to kill them while you clean. But ALWAYS empty and dispose of contents right away, they can literally climb out of your sweeper!!!! arghhhhhhhhhh I hate fleas! Good luck!

I loved comfortis up until a week or two ago. It does kill fleas, but does not repel them. With the heat and wet weather I am having the worst infestation of my life, I blame the cat. They are everywhere and the nymphs are eating me and my dogs alive. So I recommend some repellant too until they are under control. My poor poodle boy has bad allergies, he's chewing himself raw but not a flea to be seen on him

Has anyone used or heard anything about liberty 50?

I have used Advantage with very satisfying results however, I found it expensive.

The prevention method I changed to is brewers yeast. I feed my dog a tablet every other day or so and it seems fleas find him unpallatable

Brewers yeast is cheap and easy to find. We haven't had a flea in three years.

oh wow! blast from the past!
I remember people doing that from my 'way back' youth. I had forgotten all about it. And the B12 should be good for them too.
thanks for that.

We bathed him with flea shampoo again and cut his fur short, and then the two older kids went through his fur for about an hour and got a lot of fleas off him. Now there are very few on him...

If we had a larger budget we might be doing all we could to get rid of them. As it is, vacuum bags simply cost too much to ditch them every use.
