Dog with UTI?

My dog just got over a UTI. Can't imagine how she got it. But, IMO, if she has a bacterial UTI, only antibiotics will cure it. The rest, like ACV is great as a preventative following her treatment, not with her treatment because it might affect the antibiotics.

Since she passing crystals she absolutely must go to the vet. I’m sorry. I know vets are pricey but it’s your responsibility. Crystals can be painful and she’s having accidents because she is trying not to pee because it is so painful. Dogs are stoic but dobes are the most stoic of all.

Going sooner rather than later can save you money in the long run. I had a UTI and ended up in intensive care for three weeks!

If you don’t have the money you can look into CARE credit. Please take her!

Need antibiotics for a UTI if that's what the problem is. Folks here seem to think ACV will solve the world's problems.

I get frequent utis and have tried a host of home remedies and cried myself to sleep in distress because I didn't have money for a doctor and wanted to try non expensive remedies and it SUCKED. Every UTI ends in a doctors visit. Don't put your animal through that. Give them a ton of water and just get the antibiotics. No amount of vinegar and cranberries will solve the problem but it may cover it up for a while while it travels up to their kidneys and becomes very expensive.

I’m so sorry. When I was hospitalized I lay there and expressed gratitude over and over that I have excellent medical insurance. Everyone deserves the same IMO. I often feel that I am the luckiest person in the world.

Yeah, she doesn't seem to be in pain, she even rough-houses with my standard poodle pup... but she could be hiding it. I take her out around midnight and she goes, but then has an accident before 6 a.m.

She can’t hold it. Kidney problems are different and weird. Usually there are small variations in normal functions and then suddenly kidney failure occurs in a course of a few weeks. The crystals you found are very ominous.

The reason I say dobes are stoic is that one of mine insisted I take her out for potty on the day she died. I had to support her to walk and squat with a towel. She was decrepit but determined not to have an accident. You can see how bad your girl feels.

I love dobermans and to have one that makes it to ten years old is a great gift. We lost one at age 7. ):

Unfortunately an antibiotic will be the only thing to help a UTI once its set it. Other things (like cranberry juice) can help your dog prevent them, but they will not cure it. You will eventually see blood in the urine which means its reached her kidneys and if you let it go she will go septic ( bacteria in her bloodstream ) and it will kill her. Also if you bathe your dog or go to pool or beaches often .. either try to keep her out of these areas because bacteria will go into the urethra and she can get an infection unless she urinates after being in the water. Once a dog gets a UTI they can be prone to getting them so just some caution with that..

Crystals are not just for UTIs, but also kidney stones and bladder stones so it could be that too. They can come out on their own, but are extremely painful and can also cause blood. Best bet is to take your dog for an XRay of her pelvis and a urine sample.

We got her from a kill shelter when she was 4 years old; she was an owner surrender. They had turned over a male & female, & then came back to get the male. She was 20 lbs under weight, had tick fever, and was covered with hundreds of ticks. We took her to the vet & come to find out it was the same vet her owner used to take her to. We learned her name was Chloe & had all her medical records. She house broke herself in 2 days and has been living inside since. I just wanted to check any at home treatments before I shelled out. Animals can be very resilient.

Yes they can be. Thank goodness you got her! You created a miracle in her life. I truly wish you both all of the best. Boy do i know vets are spendy! Keep everyone updated okay?
