Dogs Killed my Cat!!!! ****NEW Update 5/19****

Unlike many, I am not the biggest dog fan in the world. They are pack animals and when in the group, the mob mentality often seems to take over.
The very cats they pay no attention to in the house must stay on their toes when outside.

Fortunately you are taking the right line with your son.

UN-fortunately, the State Controllers are now in the picture. They can give you more grief than you know.

I love dogs, but I have to agree that because they are a pack animal, if your Alpha decides on a course of action, the others WILL follow suit, no questions asked. IMHO If you are going to keep them, you will have to establish yourself as pack leader and let them know that harrassing cats is NOT acceptable, otherwise this could very well happen again. Even if you get rid of the big dogs, one of the others will establish pack leadership, and they now think it is ok to attack kitty..... plus, it could even have been one of the smaller dogs that lead the attack. I wouldn't jump the gun on this.... they are dogs, and they only did what dogs tend to do, unfortunately. You can't beat yourself up, but rather find a way to learn from the experience, figure out who is leading your pack and establish yourself as Alpha!

So sorry to hear about your son getting bit. I hope this all resolves quickly for you and your family. Your son shouldn't feel badly about it, there was probably no way to get there quick enough once it had started. Hopefully he has learned the value of clear and precise action, but he certainly cannot blame himself for the death of your house kitty.

RIP house cat!

*********************Update*******************

We went back to the dr saturday morning, our pediatrician is open for a few hours each Saturday, and infection was starting in his leg. The dr had him hospitalized and put in intraveinous antibiotics. His leg looked awful by Saturday afternoon, but began improving yesterday morning. He was released today, but is on anitibiotics at home and bactroban. I think he will be fine. We go back to the dr for a recheck in the morning.

DHEC called this morning and the cat tested negative. They said they were all done with us and the file was closed.

Thanks for all the concern!

Thank goodness your son is going to be ok! That is exactly what happened to my friend. Cat bites are not nice! What a horrible ordeal for your whole family to go through.

As Guitarist said, your dogs have their own pack going. You may still have problems with them because of this. You can Google Alpha dog or dog pack mentality and it should explain what is going on. I think have one or manybe two dogs is ok, but when you get over that amount you run the risk of this. They can be unpredictible and dangerous. I'm so glad your son is doing better and so sorry for your cat.
