Dominance or just jealous??

Pecking is one of the most important forms of communication for chickens. Watch them. They peck to discipline each other, as well as point to food they just found. It's a lot like our hands are to us in communicating, aiding language. And chickens have that, too, in spades. They actually have specific phrases for specific things and circumstances. If you listen, you can learn it! When you're holding your chicken and she relaxes, coo softly to her, "Chook, chook, chook." Listen carefully, she'll answer you. It means, "I'm good, you're good, and all's right with the world." I haven't heard mine do this to each other, just me. I think it's a phrase meant only for their closest humans.

As withholding the affection in order to discipline, it doesn't work that way with chickens. Giving Chicken Little all the attention she demands will make her mellow out and trust you.

Yeah, we have a big one coming at us here in the Rockies, and it looks like we'll be shoveling. Glad my run is covered and enclosed. The chickens will never know.

x 2! Thanks for your replies. Yes we woke up to snow on the ground today, only part of their run is covered so they saw "fluffy white stuff" for the first time this morning. They BOK BOK'd at me from their door stepped outside and went right back in

brrr. To think we didn't even get alot in town where I am, 3-6" expected but its cold 22 degrees out and it's heavy icy snow. I will show her the attention she deserves thats why I was assuming she was jealous. It does seem like they are trying to "one up" each other keisha jumps right on top of my shoulders with no "reserve" and Chicken Little just stands there and pecks..(maybe she wants up but is either scared or doesnt know how now that she is bid) They all used to LOVE "perching" on momma when young. I will defenitly try to watch and learn their form of comunication. Ive already learned so much about each of them and "their" personalities. My DH asked how I tell the two BR's apart? Well kind of like a mother would with twins. They do different things, coo and hum different and even walk around different. Anyone could if you spent enough time around them.

So I will do just that, spend more time around them and see if that "cures" Chicken Littles' jealousy maybe ill become even more addicted than I think I already am. THanks again stay warm,.

By the way here are some pics of my gals as chicks...the neighbors dog broke thru the fence that layed against their original coop area and our house. so temporarily the chicks were moved into the garage I would visit everyday and nite and sit on the garage floor and up they'd climb on top of momma like I said. Enjoy =) Excuse my appearance...it's late & I didn't have to impress chickens for a date
