Dominique Thread!

Disappointing hatch what went wrong? I am using a little giant incubator this time I added an egg turner and a computer fan. I started with 26 eggs 7 failed to do anything maybe they were not fertile. On the 21 st day i had 11 healthy chicks hatch with in about 12 hours. So far all are healthy and thriving. After several days i decided to open the others up. all 8 had fully formed dead chicks. What could have happened.
I am having a lot of embryos failing around pipping stage. This with hen incubation. I hope it is due to extremely wet and relatively cold temperatures during incubation. Game hens coming off in last week giving only 50% hatch and American Dominiques 25% hatch at best. Normally dom's give about 60% hatch and games nearly 90%.

Thank you for the explanation on the whitish legs. My dominique was actually one a mystery pack of 15 brown egg-laying birds that were sent from Meyer Hatchery. Everything else about the bird seems Dominique, but the legs are now (1.5 years in) a very faint yellow...closer to white than yellow. But still with nice barring and a rose comb. Mutt or not, she's still my favorite :)

I hear ya! The Dom in my avatar was my most favorite chicken ever. She is also about the worst example of Dom type you're likely to see, haha. But she was a sweetie and we loved her. :)

Ive had SOME Doms, sold off all but one, the smallest who was also the sweetest and she was killed at 1 year old. I'd like to get some again and keep it to just plan Doms, no other breeds. Can anybody recommend anyone who has some quality birds I could buy some eggs from?? I have the small Brinsea and it will only do 7 so that's all I'd want to buy.

Love my Dom..she is the sweetest out of my 21 chickens. When I get my incubator i plan on hatching Doms first!

I actually thought the Dom in your avatar was super cute and looks awesome :) Then again, I'm the exact opposite of an expert. Your Dom just looks like mine, and that just makes me think happy thoughts about my Dom, Phineas :)

She's right about the type, but I love that this is her favorite. It's not always the prettiest girl who steals your heart.

Mike Supak is in Flint Michigan. Has some nice ones, if you're not too far from there.
