A few of our Doms.

As an aside, BearSprings, LibertyRoo is one of those DCA members I mentioned, formerly from the sunshine state, but now firmly rooted in NC. They will not have any Dominiques as big as Brahmas (because LR is breeding to the standard), but if you are wanting the real McCoy, they're someone you might want to get in touch with.

Thanks for sharing pictures of your Doms. I'm starting 3 hatchery Doms this year, and unfortunately instead of pullets which I ordered, I ended up with 3 cockrels. I'm very disappointed as they were to b e the back bone of my SMALL back yard flock. Well, there's always next year, and I'll probably buy some eggs to start next spring. If a hatchery can't even get it right on an auto-sexing breed, I might as well start my own chicks. And BTW, for all those Dom breeders out there, are some strains easier to auto sex than others? Or, if there's any one in central Maine who has a Dom pullet to sell towards the end of the summer after I get done with the drama of an over abundance of roosters and send them to freezer camp, please PM me. Thanks.

P.S. I love my Doms, even though they are roosters. They have the most gentle personality, and are the best foragers.

Hi Lazy Gardener, yes I breed Doms. I'll have a few extra pullets this year. Buffalogal's recommendation of vnsseed is good, too. He's closer to Maine than I am. There's also Lily Plasse from Othala Acres in Troy, NH, I believe she has both LF and bantam Doms. I got my first Dom roo from her! Anyway, you have some options over here in NH if you can't find anything in ME.

Thanks Buffalo Gal and Draig Athar. If I can't find them close to where I live this season, I'll just hatch some eggs in the spring. Can't even think about adding to my flock as long as I have the rooster drama going on, and even then, hesitant due to bio-security. After a rough start this season, I'd hate to upset the apple cart. I was very close to doing the deed yesterday (re: roosters) with a dull axe!!

I have one Dom who is 2 years old and she is my absolute favorite! It looks like she sneaked an egg in under my broody Buff Orpington because I now have a single chick that looks like she did as a chick except with feathered legs (dad is a Salmon Faverolle). This chick is already my favorite as it is the only one who does not run away peeping when I enter the sacred broody realm (aka, the chicken tractor). It's so cute! I still can't quite get the sexing down, but if this one follows the Dom chick sexing, I *think* (hope!) it's a girl.
