Well thank goodness Mr. Rue is OK. He must have been protecting the ladies - how chivalrous. And he looks to have a nice head and back to me. Nice color as well... He's a fine roo!

I just received a mixed flock... can you confirm that my bird is a Dominique... she is between 6-9 months of age. She is very sweet. she has a funky comb... not sure a definition of rose is, but it is not a single comb on her.

I have to say i went to an auction this weekend and someone was auctioning off a Large fowl trio and a bantam trio - Am sure they were not show quality - but i was blown away. I have seen a Dominique in person and they were stunning! Am curious about their temperament-hardiness to weather- broodiness - laying - etc. I hope they are as friendly as they are beautiful. And is it hard to find quality stock? In LF or bantam? Oh and between the two - difference in personality? Sorry for all the questions but cant get those chickens out of my mind! LOL

Inkheart,

About average in tems of egg frequency, eggs run on small size. Can become broody but not so inclined as to stop egg production like more broody breeds. Cold tolerance excellent. Free range performance was good at one time but I do not think so good now. Personality extremely good (docile and not inclined to fight keeper).

Mike Stickler has show quality large fowl dominiques in Ohio, very nice quality although a bit large. If interested in show and preservation of breed, I recommend acquiring stock from more than one stock.
