WE SURVIVED FIRST SHOW

This was my first legal show and it was very different from what I expected. As you will see, I did not have much to choose from owing to molt. Fred had same problem. Contestants I put forward as follows. Click on images to album to see details.
Congratulations! Did you enjoy it?

Here is 4 pullets I am putting in a show this weekend in Fredrick Md. Heads need more work and tails on some of the pullets are not full.
Cockerels are not worth taking pictures of. still growing out their sickles.

Help the chicks got attacked last night and 1 is dead 2 have no toes and 1 has no back toes!!!!! we need help and fast!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like a rat. They love to eat little chick feet, then the chest and head. they will reach through the openings in a wire cage, or even reach in under a broody hen to steal chicks. If you can, make a night cage for the chicks out of 1/4 inch hardware cloth on all 6 sides, and put a thin board or heavy cardboard on the inside bottom of the cage so their toes don't poke through. Hang the cage about 18 inches off the ground, over another board. Use a nail and wire to attach a regular rat trap (live trap or one of those monstrous snap traps) or nail a piece of that heavy duty sticky paper to the board.

The chicks missing toes will probably live, but (obviously) will limp. Even baby chickens are pretty stoic like that.

Thanks so much for the advice! We are pretty sure it was a raccoon. They are eating, drinking and trying to move around.Their names, by the way, are Sunny, who is the one with the most toes, Cowgirl and Georgia. Cowgirl and GA are the worst and all they have are little nubs

Damage is very consistent with raccoon, especially when considering hutch birds were photographed on. It set up for such type of maiming. Raccoons will figure out how to get into such a dainty hutch. This also an issue more suitable for the pest and predators section.

Those will be a considerable handful now with such damage. Quality of life will be greatly diminished.
