Dominique Thread!

Pics
Speaking of Dom crosses, here's a girl with a Dom mom and RIR dad. As you can see her comb is split right down the middle, just like her mom, bless her heart. But she has the best disposition ever.

The rose comb is dominant? Can't wait to see what 3285 ends up with.

Anyone else have any crosses to share? Crosses are always interesting...

On the comb, that's called a Hollow Center and common on a Rose Comb / Single Comb cross..

I would very much like to see a thread dedicated to dominique crosses. Would allow dominique thread to stay focused. I will by next summer be able to contribute F1 dominique crosses involving at least two American game lines, California grey and possibly barred American Holland were the dominique is the dam (mother). Following year will show backcrosses of F1 hybrid dams back into pure American dominique males.

Just returned from a trip to North Carolina, in part, to pickup three dominique roosters (cockerols) that hopefully are of sufficiently different stock from what I already have. Also acquired a single bantam dominique rooster. I know next to nothing about bantams so though I would give him a try. Flock has been closed for at least 20 years for standard size and at least 15 years for bantam. All three on back side of molt so feathering should improve. Tonight they will be banded. Bantam already sassing my game stags, bantam is gonna get thumped but hill probably still get more than his share of ladies cause he has it going on.

Cockerol number one.

Good looking fellas. Looks like you're gonna have your hands full. I like the first photo with the cat.

Let us know how it goes with the bantam. No one in the thread has mentioned having them...

Hands are full. Keeping positive identification is getting to be challenging. Will use dual marking system. Leg bands for family and year class, wing band for individual ID.

New standard size birds have proven to be lap-birds. Caused some fun when roosting time came.

I will be researching the bantams and the process used to develop them. They do not seem to have many of the quircks typical of many other types of bantams.
