Dominique Thread!

Thanks mate yes we do have some great poultry here and I have always had Australorps as did my dad and my son plus other breeds but never showed, am 74 now so thought it's time I got serious and was reading a poultry magazine and it had a great article about Dominique's not realizing they haven't been bred in Australia but I haven't given up just yet oldbird1

Hi I am from Wollongong NSW Australia and would like to breed Dominique's so I have a problem as the breed doesn't exist in Australia or so I have been told over and over again also I don't think it possible to import from America with our Quarantine So possibly an Aussie reading this just happens to have the breed and is prepared to sell a breeding trio or eggs when available I would love to hear from you I have started breeding Plymouth Rocks and am very impressed with their nature here's hoping oldbird1

You are correct about the fabulous Dom. There are 2 LF that I absolutely love for their good nature and their hardiness - the American APA Ameraucana (probably what you would call an Araucana in your country) and the APA Dominique.

Quarantines are stringent everywhere and expensive so I do hope you will find an Aussie Dom breeder. If need be it would be well worth having a trio shipped cross your country. I've had juveniles shipped from East Coast to West Coast in the U.S. and the birds arrive overnight here. Good luck to you as the Doms are very worth the shipping cost.

There are American Dominiques in the UK. Perhaps you could order them from there?

Thanks Yakima Kid for that was thinking on these lines but a bit closer a long chance is New Zealand which I am trying to find some information, England is around 24 hours flight time I think, this has really turned into a project but with all the poultry lovers out there it's an enjoyable chore cheers oldbird1.

Hi chicken obsessed I have still got a few irons in the fire but I originally am from Queensland and both my wife's and my family's live up there and the call for Dominique's is doing the rounds and yes there is a big Araucana following in Australia cheers oldbird1.

I've been noticing that one of my dominiques is getting a reder and more developed comb and wattles versus the others. But there supposed to be all hens and there feathers appear the same. All of them hatched in April. Is it normal for a difference? I took some pictures and zoomed in on them so you might be able to see.

I may try to catch then tonight and put them side by side

@PheasantsFirst i would be a bit worried that it might be male. Are the feathers of the questionable one lighter than the others?

The two photos you posted, are those of the same bird, or two different ones?

Sorry, they are a but fuzzy.

Sorry about the fuzziness, there two different birds and I don't even a major difference in feather color. The combs fatter in the questionable one.I'll go out in a bit and try to b get some better pictures
