Dominique Thread!

I have infused some of the genetics from my games into one of my American Dominique lines to get harder feathers and better free-range performance. Now I am in the process of injecting the allele for white skin from a strain of American Game that is in part derived from Kentucky Doms. End result will look a lot more like American Doms prior to the infusion of of Black Java.

Eight years into project now with another 15 to 20 to go. Birds of this project are being called Missouri Dominiques.


This being done in parallel to my Voter Strain of American Dominiques. I have to keep stressing the efforts are not intermingled.

I still wish I could get eggs from you.

Your Missouri Dominiques are exactly what I think a Dom should look like.

Niw I can't remember exactly what the Voter ones look like. Aren't those a strain with dark girls? (Darker than average...which I actually like)

A bit off topic, but you just reminded me they did indeed use Dom feathers for pillows and beds. Now that I've actually plucked a bird using boiling water I remember the smell was awful. Do you happen to know what was done to the feathers to get the smell out? Strange question, I know, but I have got to know for some reason.

My Mom used chicken, duck, goose down and feathers all the time but she sheltered me from butchering days so I don't know what she used to deodorize them. I'm thinking baking soda water would do a good job of neutralizing odor with a good quality dish soap like Dawn or maybe one of those nice-smelling laundry soaps like Gain. The initial smell in boiling water during plucking is God-awful and I can still remember the smells on the farm.

I got 5 Dom sexed "pullets" at the beginning of March, and unfortunately it looks like I have two cockerels. I keep bantam hens so can't have a standard roo, and I can't bring myself to have them butchered. Anyone in the Southern PA area interested in a Dom cockerel?

Hello all! I've been searching and searching for some nice quality Dominique. I've been having a hard time finding any, all I can find is hatchery stock and big bulky birds that look like they have Barred Rocks mixed in. Do any of you have or know of any breeders with nice Dominique? Thanks!

The ones from Cackle are actually pretty good.

I would highly recommend going that rout.



There is a Facebook Dominique group, breeders occasionally post their extra roosters, and rarely chicks. However, it might be a good way to go.

For only $10 you can join the Dominique breeder club and get access to their breeder list, and find contacts that way.

After years of pining and research, I finally got some Dominique chicks. They're feed store hatchery quality, so I'm sure they'll be far from the SOP, but I want to get a feel for the breed before I start actually breeding to the standard. I'm only 25, so I'm not a homeowner and have limited resources. But I'm working my way to hopefully being able to help preserve the breed in a few years!
