Dominique Thread!

Such an interesting website -- which also confirms the variations found in the Dominique as far as type, color, comb, etc. There is an SOP for Doms and all breeders strive to attain all points but after reading the following dna research website I don't think we'll ever see a row of show Doms ever all looking alike. Looks like a judge's subjectivity at shows will be the ultimate prevailer for a show winner (as I'm sure it is for all other breed entrants).

Hi, can anyone tell me if my pullet is a Dominique?

When we bought her they told us she was a barred rock, but people have been telling us she might not be.
Either they were wrong, or she is a cross between a barred rock and something else.

Barred Rocks have single combs, and single combs are recessive. .. in other words no other comb (like a rose comb) could be hiding under the single comb.

The chick you have has a clear rose comb.

So.... she could be a mix, barred rock crossed with a breed with a rose comb. Or She is a Dominique, they are supposed to have rose combs.

What a cutie! Where did you get her from? Here's some pics of my Dom pullets as juveniles -- notice that their cuckoo looks more speckled rather than lines of barring (barring is what Barred Rocks are known for). My Doms' rosecombs always stayed small and flat against their skull as they grew to juveniles -- the rosecombs didn't get very fleshy until they were about 3 months:

They’re beautiful!! We got her at a local feed shop. They told us she was a barred rock, but she looks exactly like your doms!
