Dominique Thread!

Can someone post - or direct me to a link - that shows what the Dominique comb should look like for male and female? I have question regarding how "flat" vs. raised "rows", etc.

You should get on to Dominique Breeder's web page.

They have a number of free PDF articles that you can open and read for free.

The first article on this page, written by Mark Fields is excellent, I highly recommend it, and it contains a good detailed account of the proper comb.

As to your specific question regarding "flat verses raised" do you mean the bumps on the comb?

There is debate in the Dominique breeder community regarding that. As far as I can tell... the current consensus is as long as the comb does not have a front hollow, is symmetrical, and not overly large and course, it is up to individual preference.

I prefer the comb closer to smooth, I think most prefer an even coating of smallish bumps.

These 2 old pictures by Schilling, are still considered to be ideal Dominiques.

Note the smooth combs.

The Mark Fields article says: "...top of comb evenly filled in with small rounded points."

So if it is more flat without the points, does that make it incorrect?
You mean more smooth?

Well, it isn't a DQ, and you wouldn't lose much if anything for it at a show. Nicely shaped and small is WAY better than course and large. But yes, in the standard it does ask for "top covered in small points"

There are many parts to a bird. You need to look at it as a whole.
