This is Virginia, 4 weeks old today. As soon as I open the brooder she wants to come out and visit. Tonight she didn't want to go back.

I just hatched some dominiques. I've been thinking about them for a year and finally got a coop big enough to get more chickens. I also hatched some javas and a cochin that came from a "java" egg. The dominiques are my favorite by far. They are so friendly and sweet.
I ended up with 3. They were ebay eggs so I feel fortunate to have any. I think I have 2 pullets and a cockerel from the head spots and toes. I'll probably get more after I see how many java roosters I have to cull.Exciting, how many did you hatch? I think you are right. Every time my daughter came close to take the picture, Virginia would tell her to back off.
from what I have seen the roos are very good at defending the hens. Mine is constantly watching where they are at all times and keeping them together in one group. How good are Doms at defending their hens? What about size?
