I added bricks in a step shape up the side. So if another one does this they can just walk out.

I am allowing my two year old hens to set. I have only six but three are broody. Nest placement could be better since they are placed along pathway my son looks for eggs. My little boy has no problem reaching under a broody hen even when she flogs him.

I would love to get back to just Dominiques again. No sense getting rid of what I have right not tho, they all lay well and I have one wonderful broody who has given me 2 broods this year. Not complaining.

for the curious, this is my white Chantecler broody who is finishing up her 2nd hatch for this summer. All the yellow chicks bred from the Chantecler daddy have been sold, these little ones are mutts, the cross between her and a Dominique. 2 of them look like daddy, dark colored and stripes showing up, the other, a little pullet right near mother is a beautiful soft gray, also has some stripes showing up. I decided to keep the mutts. They are Leroy and Doris, and the gray one is Spirit. I guess you could call them Chanteniques??

We have a beautiful 17 week old Dominique that has begun to crow
Now we need to find a new home for him before my neighbors come for my head on a pike.
I am heartbroken. He is the prettiest bird in the flock.
I have never had to get rid of a bird before. Any ideas how to find a good home for him that is not Craigslist? We live by Cape Cod.

Interesting behavioral note.

Most of my hens are very hard on chicks that are not their own. Many of the dominiques are an exception. The hens tolerate older chicks in among their own just fine.

My Dom pullet is the nicest of my girls to the 3 new additions that are 3 weeks younger than the rest.
