Nice bird! The Dominiques have really made some progress in the last couple of years.

Jus wondering if anyone has crossed a dominique roo and black austrolop or RIR hens. Love to see some pics if so.

I had a couple chicks from a Dom roo over a black australorp and also a Dom roo over a buff orpington. The crosses with the BA turn out looking pretty much like Doms but with roos and hens being about the same shade. Dom over BO gives barred birds with variable leakage of red/gold coloring. I've gotten rid of most of my 'extra' hens now though so I don't get crossed chicks anymore. :)

Ok thanks. I'll prolly jus get a RIR roo to put n thr wth them
If you breed your Rhode Island Red over your Doms you will get sex link chicks. I have a Black Sex-Link that was give to me who's mother was a Dominique and it's father was a Rhode Island Red. That's one of the reasons I got interested in Doms.

Nice looking Roo, Farmer John! he looks a lot like mine. I have 6- Dominique laying hens and a Roo....he's pretty..well they all are. I raised them from chicks. However not any of the hens are broody. Anybody know how to get incubated, Dominique chicks, that are now laying hens 19-months old; to get broody?

Mine seem to go broody late in season not long before heavy molt starts. Most of mine also do not get readily broody until their second season as layers and some do not become reliably broody even after that. With some of my penned hens I can get them broody by cutting back their feed after 3 or 4 days of feed restriction. That simulates the normal weight loss they undergo when having to do all their own foraging.

Thank You for your post and information, Centrarchid!

Anybody else want to chime in on: Anybody know how to get incubated, Dominique chicks, that are now laying hens 19-months old; to get broody?

We just ordered 25 from TSC! This is our first venturing into chickens. If anybody has any advice or pointers I am open to suggestions. Thanks
