Just ordered 15 Dominique pullets from Cackle!!!!
I already have 4 hens and 2 roosters from Meyer, but I'm really excited about the new girls, especially since I've read many posts saying that Cackle's Dominiques are the most true-to-breed of all the big hatcheries.
Now I just need some of my girls from last year to go broody and hatch out even more!
They really are the sweetest little things. I never thought I'd be addicted to chickens, but I am now!

Good luck on getting one to go broody. I've been waiting 18-months on my 6 girls...no luck. With all of these incubated chicks from hatcheries, I think most of the natural broodiness has been bred out of them. And that is why you can but incubators everywhere and why there is a forum here on BYC on homemade bators.

I agree. The hatchery BR's I got last year, not one broody out of 14 hens.

This line I bought of Dominique's are supposed to be really broody though. I truly hope so! As chicks, I could see their instincts coming out...even as day olds. They are supposed to be great mothers too. Can't wait for next spring to see

Love watching the momma hens with a brood! It's that AWWWW factor

and less work for me! Momma hens know way more than I do about their babies

Huge differenced between hatchery and Standard Bred birds.

Just wanted to introduce myself. My husband and I live in PA. We got our first four hens from a local person. They are Dominiques and we love them. We hope to breed them and make a whole flock of Dominiques down the road. We just joined the Dominique group and hope to win the incubator LOL! Here is our a close up of one of our girls the day they came home: We can't wait to learn more from you all. Does this Hen have a wingband? The cuckoo pattern looks very familiar to me.

My wife and I just got some Dominique chicks. We love it so far. I would like to hatch some in the future. Good luck. If you have any tips along the way let me know.
