Dominique Thread!

I need Dom eggs that are brown if they are to be my main breed (hubby requirement) - though I would be happy with the occasional pinkish egg too!

I do not have anything from Nantahala Farms.

However, all of my Dom eggs are brown. They are a light pink brown, but still brown, not a creamy white.

In the photo below, dark brown are Marans, white are leghorns and bantams, pink ones are Doms.

There is one cream egg in there, not a Dom egg, it is a project color Leghorn egg.

Maybe his is a better shot to see color. Again, the pinkish brown are Dominiques.

The one terra cotta color egg is a "bad" Marans.

The whites are Leghorns, the tiny ones are quail.

Thanks Alaskan, those look great. I knew Dom eggs are a light brown, but when TheelchickinKY said hers are similar to her Swedes that concerned me, since my SFH eggs are cream, not brown at all. I think she has some Nantahala farms stock, which I may be buying soon (hatching eggs) since they have the nice disposition I'm looking for. BUT if the eggs are cream I may have to reconsider.

My Dom's eggs often have tiny white specks. I think it's very pretty, but is it because she's a new layer? Will it become a consistent color or stay slightly speckled? Hers look like the pink egg in the middle with the faint speckled pattern. Otherwise normal - No bumpiness nor odd shape.

I ended up with a bunch from Cackle, most of the above eggs are from the hens from Cackle, and they are actually pretty good.

Their personalities are excellent, including the rooster that I kept.

Their body shape is good, not great, their color is good, again not great.

Out of five males, a couple were horrid, but I ended up with one pretty good one.

None of my Doms lay shiny eggs, some have more of a thin white wash than others.

If that is what you are talking about, @Faraday40, then it is normal, and might be what her eggs will always look like.

There are some Calcium issues that can cause Calcium spots on the eggs, but that looks different.

Thanks. Here's a super close up of today's eggs. (I don't get enough to use a basket.) The Dom's egg is on the right & a Sussex-Orp mix egg is on the left. Both are pullets & both lay pinkish eggs with a matte finish. (Color looks off on my monitor, but otherwise this is how they look.) Are these speckles normal?
