Dominique Thread!

I actually think the comb on the girl is too large.

Yep, these are very old photos (1920's maybe?) and both birds look very small too. You still see the somewhat U-shape back on today's larger males but I've been noticing it's rare to find today's larger hens without a cushion that kinda interferes with the perfect U-shape back that we see on the small female in the old photo.

In my opinion I feel the saddle area or cushion is very important in selection for getting the proper top line on the female Dominique. In have found that the looser feather cushioned female with a short back is beneficial for breeding males.

From what I understand, they are photos that were touched up, "improved" so that they could be used in the Dominique SOP.

These are very endearing female Dom photos to me. These girls have gorgeous U-shape backs!!!! Do you have some photo captures of their rosecombs too?

What do brothers and sons of the lower hen look like? Bars very much favoring the light gray making her almost like a male. Barring in adjacent feathers also coming close to forming large rings. Is eye catching.

Since cameras were used during the Civil War I've got to assume the old 1920 images of cock and hen were photos - too darn detailed to be a drawing - but then I wasn't the imager so can't be positive.

As I said above, but here again, and in better detail, from the following website: http://ponderosaplantation.com/american-dominiques/

Below we have the Dominique Standard Illustrations. These photos are the final product of A.O. Schilling’s interpretation of photos of winning Dominiques from 1913. These drawings are listed in the American Poultry Association’s “Standard of Perfection”.
