Job insecurity. Culling down to reduce feed bill. Brother now outfitted to keep at least as many as I can when not under financial stress. At least as many brother took got place at table as well. Missouri Dominique flock will be knocked back to a dozen birds next week. Games will be reduced to low 20's.

I totally hear ya.

After years of Alaska's government bloating up.... the decrease in oil revenue is making the entire state crash and burn. Even though tonnes of people are now out of work because of the down turn over the last four years... the Alaskan government doesn't want to cut themselves...so are talking about starting sales tax and income tax.

I have no idea how us not rich folks are going to make ends meet. Might need to move.



Nice that your brother is close enough to help. I would be bummed if your line died out, I like what you oroduce way better than most that I have seen. Nothing wrong with paring down though. Now you can go forward with your very best stock.

Financial woes here due to new corporate loopholes in tax code and increasing healthcare costs. It was assumed state economy would recover faster than it did in response to the loopholes. Demographic changes and and rising costs for health services and medication the state pays for is occurring at the same time. Another big problem is my place of employment was made a line item in an attempt to get more funding. The line item part turned out to be real bad early on.

Even with promotions I make less now than when I started with current employer. State has been balancing budget in part by limiting pay typically used to keep pace with inflation. My pay tied to state rate even though only a small percentage from state.


When i reduce flock size it looses genetic variation. Getting birds back from brother in future will help some but at some point new blood will need to be added to counter inbreeding.

I am hoping they grow into decent show birds. I got eggs last year from Duane Urch, I did well with the parents now we will see what these do. I screwed up though and sold 7 to a 4H kid to show. I should have kept them too, I thought I would get more early but cold and frozen eggs stopped that. OH well...


I am getting inquiries from some people that want to buy them, but I am holding off selling anything more, well Dom's anyways.
