Planning to do some pictures later today. BTW it wasn't the same bird that won both times it was two different birds picked by two different judges.

That is awesome!!! Congrats!

Here's a pullet from this morning. I'm not sure if she's one of the Reserve American winners or not. I have 21 pullets I kept this year & they all look alike.

Are you going to be bringing birds/ Dominique to Ohio Nationals?

Chris

Sending some to be united with their new owner but I won't be going this year.

Now that is a Dominique!

Wow, look at the spread of the tail, nice back excellent comb Very nice bird.

Now is there any of Mike Stichler's blood in your birds?

Chris

I have 2 potentially pure Voter strain dominique hens and four chicks (2 from a third lost over summer and four from one of the existing hens) that are 75% Voter strain. I would like to reconstitute this strain. Does anyone have Voter strain birds?

I'm considering getting some Dominiques. This is my first foray into chickens and I have some questions about the breed.

1. How cold hardy are Dominiques? We live in northern Vermont and while I intend to build a tight coop, I don't intend to heat it. We spent double digit days below zero last winter.
2. How do they rank on the friendly scale? I have a two year old boy that I hope will spend some time "helping" with and learning about the flock.
3. How much space do Dominiques need to take advantage of their foraging ability? I have an acre fenced in, but I'm concerned about my dogs killing/chasing my birds so I was going to build them(poultry) a decent sized run.

Thanks for your time.

My mixed breed flock includes Dominique due to their heritage status, foraging abilities, durability, and I prefer rose comb over the single comb birds. I gave and sold several. My remaining pullet is 6 months, started laying daily a small hard shelled perfect pullet egg about 10 days ago. She is the most curious, friendly and quick at getting treats than the five other hutch mates. I wanted to keep the pretty cockerel but he started to show a spine deformity about two months ago. I will consider breeding the Dominique when I have more space.
