Soon I will be moving dom pens over garden so they can clean up weed seeds and fertilize soil. They are better than some breeds when it comes to digging deep to get goodies.

They did good! I got 15 eggs from my girls!!

Good evening everyone,
I got a older flock of Doms last year and I am looking to add some new blood to the flock is there anyone on this thread from Southwest MI, Northwest NI, or Northwest OH. I am looking for some hatching eggs.

Dawn

This first of several post that will show what some of my doms look like. This cockerol (Dave) acquired from Guerny Davis of North Carolina. Guerny has one of the few remaining dual purpose production flocks. Dave weighs about 2700 g when crop is topped of for night. He and his brother are smaller than the show strain birds to be posted later.

I had difficulty getting Dave to show good face as he seemed inclined to walk around on floor and jump onto sink so he could fight reflection in mirror.

Head shot showing a less than perfect rose comb.

Despite his imperfections, the ladies when having a choice like Dave better than the fancy show boys.

Dawn, if you're serious about the breed I heard of a man in Michigan with good stock. I don't have his contact info with me here, but if you want to send me a PM to remind me I'll get it to you as soon as I can.

Does anyone on this board sell Dominique hatching eggs?? Looking for some SQ or Show Breeder quality to improve my stock. Right now the incubator is full, so I really wouldn't seriously be looking for eggs until next month, or maybe even March - when weather would typically be warmer. Weather is too cold in Eastern Oregon now to expect good hatch rates with shipped eggs.

Anyone w/ Doms in the OR, Northern CA, or PNW in general??

Me me!

We don't have high quality eggs yet, but I live in Madras and a friend and I have our flocks at her place in Terrebonne, working on birds. Would love to chat! I don't know anyone off the top of my head that ships eggs, but I'm sure there's a note somewhere in my contacts and I will keep my eyes and ears open.

Will you be going to the Stevenson WA show?

Pity. She was probably the one that would have went broody and stuck with it. In every breed I've had over the years, my best broody hens, the most persistent, and the most likely to hatch off several clutches a year are almost always the worst layers. They start late, and don't lay for long before they take over a nest and spend all their time thinking about motherin' a clutch of chicks.

What is an "SS"? Speckled Sussex is the only thing that comes to mind, and I know that's not what you're talking about.
Two hours on the nest is not Broody. That is just taking her time laying an egg.
