Ummmm, I have to break the news to you gently: those birds are amazing!!!! The cockerel has really grown into his back, it's still a wee long, but this guy is just a baby! You really can't size them up until they are a year - or older.... Look at his tail feathers, see how they make a nice inverted V shape? That's what you want!!! Color is great (even throughout), and those nice clean yellow legs and beak. The pullet!!! I am just tickled with her. She has nice type and guess what? She has absolutely no black on her legs-amazing. I hope that you show these two. They will do well... These are from Cornerstone Farm, right? Guess I'm definitely gonna have to made a road trip for a bird or two.

She's lovely. She has a sleek line. I see that she does not have the extra fluff on the backside that isn't desired... Very good. Her tail is very nice and she holds it well....

I only wish Doms were great layers.................they would be very tempting. but i need good layers--of GOOD sized eggs...........

Some very dear person offered an ENTIRE flock of Doms to me--and he is very good at breeding them................

but................the eggs......................

They're a bit long in the back & their tails are carried too low. They kind of look like Rose Combed Barred Rocks. The spike on the male's comb should turn upwards not follow the shape of the skull. Other than that I like the combs on all 3. They are the right size & they are covered with small points as they should be. You see a lot of Dominiques with smooth combs. They have nice colouring & bright yellow legs.
So, where does that leave you? The aspects that are easiest to correct, comb & colour are ok. The type, which is harder to influence is a problem. To correct the type you'll need to add new blood with better type or simply start again with birds with better type.

ETA: the pullet in my Avatar has pretty good type.

--- I am not a judge, this is just my personal opinion, I think we should all take our birds to shows and force the judges to comment! lol ---

I am not a huge fan of the trio, but the cockerel does have a nice tail spread and nice bright yellow legs - his pullets might have really good coloring. As far as type goes, I agree with NYREDS.

I do think that many lines of doms could benefit from the nice leg and beak coloring in these birds - light shadowing on the pullets and good clear yellow. Perhaps a test hatch is in order? Or get ahold of some more birds, and do a few test crosses to see if you can get some better type in them while keeping that nice yellow. There's not a photo of the cockerel clearly showing his breast - does he have one? Do you have a weight on this guy?

All in all though, they look happy and may fill in a bit better with age, so perhaps don't cull them yet. The tail spread on that pullet isn't anything fantastic, but could perhaps be improved by crossing to the cockerel or another male with a good tail. They already look much better (especially the cockerel) than two months ago, but I think that Dominqiue type is lacking, and I'm not sure about his wing carriage.

As far as the pullet posted on the previous page, she looks nice. I think her barring is a bit too even, but she looks like she has nice type and tail spread, which are much more important than color. She is mid-stride so it's hard to tell where her breast would be at normally but she looks like she's got a downward sloping back

Cackle Hatchery in Lebanon, Missouri has Dominique bantams from Mark Field's "Unbeatable Beauty Line".
Order fast before they sell out.

So, why was the pullet getting a bath? She certainly doesn't seem too flustered over getting a good soaking.

In that particular series of pictures the lack of breast and bad wing carriage is wholly attributed to a new cockerel in our flock. Recently acquired a Buckeye and their kennels were right next to each other and when our Dom heard the new guy he postured himself accordingly. While not the best photos, here is are some views of his breast from about a month ago:

Also, does anyone have a good quality photo of a Dominique with good/correct type. What needs improvement as far as type, I assume the Barred Rock comment means they look to large?

Second question: anyone out there planning to sell any hatching eggs, or birds?? I have been looking for new blood but none with photos that lead me to assume that with their birds I could improve my stock.

Anyone know anything about how reputable these eggs on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/10-plus-dominiq...779?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19c2f68b23

Birds got bathes to get ready for a show my boyfriend and I will be going to in Humboldt County, California and later the Stevenson, WA show. Of all the birds bathes she seemed to really enjoy the whole getting pampered thing. She has an awesome personality, even if she insists on pecking anything that moves (i.e. your hands when you refile her water) lol

Personally I truly enjoy your pictures ! As far a critique, the only fault that I see is that their comb ends in the down position instead of UP . I love that they has so much personality and enjoy their bath. I wish my little Dominique wanted attention !
