Thanks. The reason I ask, is because in "the poultry book" published in 1850, referring to Dominiques, the author gives some production numbers given him from an acquaintance that raised doms. His numbers are as follows (page 100-101): "His statement is a correct account of the cost of keeping thirty-eight fowls, and the number of eggs obtained from them, during the months of December, 1848, and January, February, and March 1849, and is as follows: Dec 1848, 234 eggs.....Jan 1849, 298 eggs........Feb 1849 450 eggs.........Mar 1849, 684 eggs....." This means that this farmer had 38 hens. Averageing the egg production from each month per hen, then dividing by the number of days, we get an average of Dec: 1.6 eggs per week per bird, and on the other extreme, in March, he got 4.5 eggs per week. Of course, these were winter month eggs numbers, which generally see a drop in eggs production, especially in 1849. Interesting stuff. If the birds nowdays are producing 5 eggs per week, ( as is indicated by the responses) that is .71 eggs per day. The same flock of 38 hens today producing at that rate (.71) would be putting out 809 eggs per month. .....He also states: "The fowls are a very perfect breed"
