Worth a try. A Pucket was a partner in games with my great uncle Louie Wandel.

My brother living in Dale, IN has a dom rooster from a breeder of dual purpose doms that was closed for more than 25 years. By all I can tell, they are very inbred but have some genetic value if outcrossed to form a new line of doms.

Dale isn't very far at all from me. I am 20 miles north of Evansville.

I am planning on sticking with the Delawares. I must say though, I do like looking out in the chicken run and seeing the dom tails running around

The game used to produce my dom x games appears as follows.

I still do not know fully what genetic mechanism(s) are at play causing his color pattern other than the brown coloration all over is dominant to wild-type and he is heterogygous between the brown breasted brown-red and wild-type. The comb type (it is not single or pea comb) he carries when heterozygous causes what approximates a single comb when expressed in combination a heterozygous rose comb.

Some color patterns, other than with barring and extended black, to pop up will be a function of what is hiding in the dominiques. I suspect color variation that is not clearly evident in the dom may become visible as the extended black in particular is removed by backcrossing into games. The composite nature of the original dominiques and the introduction of genetic variation into dominiques from other breeds ensures some interesting surprizes will be realized.

My dom chick is five weeks old tomorrow. I was in the run giving everyone treats yesterday when I noticed black spots on her legs. I half-freaked thinking she had picked up mites at first, but after I coaxed her into my hand (which is easy since she's one of our two "lap chickens") and took a good look at her, I realized this wasn't the case. The spots weren't mites, but tiny little feather fluffs (or at least I am pretty sure that they are). They are widely spaced but uniformly extend down the outside of her, otherwise bare, legs to the top of her foot.

So far as I know, doms are supposed to be clean-legged. She didn't have them prior to this, though, and we definitely would have see them since she's always in lap or hand when we're around her. I am so confused.

This is the most recent photo I have of her. I'll try to get one of the feather tufts as soon as I can.

What you are describing is known as stubs. For Dominiques, these often come from mixing in cuckoo marans or other feather legged birds. Sorry about that, but it is a DQ, and not something you would want in any breeding program. If you are breeding, please do not use this female or her bloodlines in your breeding pens. Try to find out if it was her sire or dam that passed this on to her (test crosses with another hen or rooster, etc.) and do not use them or their other offspring for breeding either.

She's a cutie though

Unfortunately, there is no way for me to find out who her parents are for she is a hatchery bird (it was the only place I knew to find doms at the time, and I was quite enamored of the breed once I found out about them). Thank you for the info, though! I'm still new to this "chicken thing," so am continuing to learn. We have no plans for any breeding of our flock at this time, so keeping that anomaly from spreading will be no trouble.

She's definitely a cutie, and loaded with personality. She is the most curious and independent troublemaker of the flock (if she can get into it, she will!), and the first one on your shoulder or wrist when you open the run door. Love her to pieces.

Just thought I'd share a few pics of my doms. These were hatched the last week or so of April so they're about 12-14 weeks old. One of the roosters has just started crowing within the last week. We've got 2 pullets and 2 roosters.

I don't know if it's been covered but The Dominique Club of America has all new officers. Young lady named Tracey is trying to save the club. The DCA has a new web site and they want to start putting on some poultry shows and meets just for Dominiques. Here's a link to the new web site, somethings are not working yet. http://www.dominiqueclub.org/

Thanks everyone for being patient while we get the website finished. I've got several doctor appointments tomorrow, but I should be able to make more progress on the site this weekend.

Also, if you are a member that joined and didn't get your joining info (or aren't on the member's directory), please contact our club secretary so we can get the information sent out to you once we update the membership directory and breeder's list. Please fill out a membership application, but just note on there if you've already paid dues this year. You can mail these in or scan and email them, or call and ask her if she has a fax, I'm not 100% certain on that. Another thing to find out and put on the site!

Anyone else know if they will make it to the Nationals at Crossroads? I can't make it this year, since my car accident I have to really limit my travelling because of back/hip/neck/shoulder/etcetcetc pain, but maybe next year I might fly out or something. I will however be in Stockton this winter and would love to see some more Doms there - my partner and I hope to bring some of our pullets from different lines and see what the judges think of the differences between them. We might also take a young cock bird from last fall breeding. He needs a lot of improvement but there are some things about him we really like and hope to bring out those best traits through some careful crossings with the hens we're pairing him with over the next year.

And mrc - I love the leg color on those birds, good job
