Replace never with rarely (maybe even very rarely) otherwise role of mutations and their repeated occurrence is discounted.

From what I have seen, the locus / loci coding for single comb and rose comb phenotypes are not the same as those promoting narrow combs, hollow centers or fewer points. Other loci are involved. Effects of those other loci only detectable when played out with rose comb phenotype. You simply must have the rose comb phenotype operating to cull out the alleles that are undesirable when interacting with the rose comb.
Body type will not be degraded by change of comb type alone. Comb type is a function of relatively few genes that are not shown to be same as any influencing body type. Degrading of body type can be done independently as a result of poor selection of brood animals for body type.

Hi all, I'm new here so be patient. Someplace I read NYREDS have dominque's. Also I think along the way I seen he's tied in with the farmers museum in Cooperstown. What I'm looking for is to buy some Dominique chicks , I live near Cooperstown. Please respond.

I know and a few others will agree with me in that the Rose comb is not near as "Dominate" to the Single Comb as once thought.
In crossing Single Comb Reds with Rose Comb Reds I have seen Narrow Combs, Hollow Centers, Fewer Points, Inverted Spikes and Double Combs crop up that would other wise never have involved.

When I said that one could start to kill the body type.
That Single Comb could be the result of a crossing to a Barred Rock, now you are breeding more of the Barred Rock blood and possible the body type in to your stock and if you are line breeding you will start to change body type.

This is off topic but I am trying to build up a flock of Dominiques from Guerney Davis strain birds. Mr. Davis doesn't ship eggs or birds and I live nowhere near him, so it would be great to find people whose original birds are from him, who might be able to ship eggs or meet up with me at Crossroads. I'm not an exhibitor but I live only a couple hours north of Indianapolis, and plan to visit the show. Am trying to stick with eggs rather than live birds for biosecurity reasons.

Please drop me a PM if you keep birds from Guerney Davis and might be able to help!

Curious as to how your pullets are doing. Mine, from the same breeder, started laying early and I think we have got something like 27 eggs in the past 14 days from the two of them.

I love the Dominque , and am planning to start breeding them. Here is one of my speckeled hens checking out a nest.
