Dont buy from Dorothy Douglas she sells on Ebay

Some people prefer not to put fragile on packages of eggs, because it really doesn't do any good. So as for that I wouldn't really mark it against them. But it does sound like they could have done a better job packing.

Yeah, I'd heard that too.. that marking the box as "Fragile Eggs" makes the postal workers treat the box alot rougher.. how did the eggs come packed? individually wrapped in bubble? nested in raffia? Stuck in an egg carton? Foam? Peanuts?

That would determine far better whether she's actually a bad seller or if the postal people in your area are just mean.

I have ordered eggs off and on the past 5 years. The people that I have ordered from have always put Fragile Eggs in big red letters. Never had broken eggs. I used to work at a research poultry farm. I know that it does make a difference when you put fragile on there. No they are not as gentle as I would like them to but at least with FRAGILE marked on the box I have never got the mess I got this morning.

every time I get a box marked "FRAGILE" it comes in looking like this.. or worse:

so it depends on the postal hub it goes through...
Personally I have better hatch rates on boxes that are NOT marked fragile.. AND I always make a point of checking a seller's feedback BEFORE bidding on their eggs.
Accidents can always happen.. However the feedback is there for a reason.. Why would I want to buy eggs from someone who has a known record of poor packing?

as far as selling "infertile" eggs... that is an unknown. There is NO way of knowing if that egg was infertile unless you break it open before incubation. Yes, you CAN break it open after incubation.. however the yolk can degrade enough that fertility cannot be assured .. you would have to know for a fact that the seller did not have enough males to do the job.

Once it is in the incubator the seller could argue that the egg was indeed fertile however your incubation practices or handling by the postal service was at fault.
Overheating .. poor handling of the eggs.. failure to set the eggs in a prompt manor can also lead to incubation failure in an otherwise fertile egg.

so people complaining that shipped eggs are "infertile" have no idea what they are talking about since there are other factors which can cause the egg not to develop.

I can see complaining that the eggs were not packaged properly (no use of bubble wrap, foam inserts, lack of packing material and so on) however to cry "infertile" is, in my opinion a poor excuse and an easy way to blame the seller if the eggs were indeed packaged properly.

It came in a box like what you showed below but there was no damage to the outside. I have never had any problems with the postal service as I said before I have bought eggs a number of times and they have always had fragile eggs in big letters and always had good luck with them. They were in a bunch of news paper with bubble wrap wrapped around them so the packing did not help either if they had been in a carton with bubble wrap around the carton it might have helped. But no I sorry I have to say this was all the sellers fault on this. The packing was a joke.

I have ordered eggs on BYC from many people, and one never knows how they will arrive. I have had them packed great where I could hardly get them out, and still broken, and just put in an egg carton with tissue and some newspaper looking perfect and none developed. On many threads you will read that sellers will not mark them as fragile or eggs because they feel like certain sadistic people will toss them around. Some sellers will ask how you prefer them to be labeled. They all say that they don't guarantee hatching because of rough treatment in shipping.

She did not ask me how I wanted the box marked. Like I said I have had eggs shipped before and never had a problem with the postal service being ruff to the point every egg in the box broke or cracked. The rough treatment has something to do with the hatching but they x-ray all packages now looking for bombs and that is what causes low hatch rate. The reason I posted how they were packed was because another member asked me. Bottom line she needs to refund my money back.

sorry.. only a percentage get the x-ray treatment.. I have also gotten 100% hatch rates on some shipped eggs .. so if it were true that they x-rayed ALL packages then I should NEVER get a 100% on shipped eggs.

I hope the following info helps clear up the x-ray scenario

Additional Mail Security Measures

Is Mail X-Rayed?

Some of the mail that is sent through the United States Postal Service will pass through an X-Ray machine. There are no specific guidelines as to what may or may not be x-rayed, though mail sent to or through larger cities is likely to pass through an X-Ray machine.

Note: Marking a mailpiece "Do Not X-Ray" will not forgo the X-Raying of a mailpiece, and may result in the item being considered suspicious

If you have additional questions about X-Raying of items, contact your local Post Office.

Irradiation/Sanitation

The only mail currently being irradiated is mail sent to federal government agencies in WashingtonDC, for ZIP Codes
2122.png
beginning with 202, 203, 204 and 205. Mail to these Zones is accumulated at a site near the Brentwood Road facility, and then shipped to New Jersey to be irradiated. This process in New Jersey takes approximately 24 hours. Mail can take three (3) to five (5) days longer to reach its destination than it did prior to irradiation, but is generally not more than three (3) days. Mail returned from New Jersey is aired out for a short period before it is processed at a postal location designated for sorting all Government mail. Once the United States Postal Service provides mail to Congress and other affected government groups, some have their own mail rooms that do additional security checking before the mail is sorted and actually given to the recipients. Customers may send either Priority Mail or Express Mail items for expedited handling. This mail is not irradiated unless it is sent to the White House.

Mail may arrive in a plastic bag(gie) with a letter explaining the sanitization process (if the mail was sanitized).

Irradiation can have a negative effect on some plant, food, medical and electronic devices. While some people have reported mild symptoms after handling irradiated mail, substantial biological and medical testing has found no link between irradiated mail and those symptoms. Because the irradiation process can dry out paper and "yellow" the mail, there may be more paper dust or roughness associated with this mail. The irradiation process does not create any harmful radiation. The process was developed in consultation with scientists and experts both within and outside the federal government, led by the White House Office of Science and Technology.

I bought from the mentioned seller in NC this week and am very pleased. It seems this package was just abused by the PO last year or the packing methods have been improved. I received 17 perfectly intact eggs and only paid $9.99 plus shipping. Packed in large usps box and marked fragile. Shipped the next day after payment, pointy end down.
