I put an ad on CL that I will take them, funny thing is little Johnny or Suzy never cries about giving away the chick, duck or rabbit they thought was so cute 3 weeks before. But Mom and Dad always look horrified.

I so agree. I have a neighbor that told me I needed to sell chicks for Easter. I told her NO! People buy them and other animals for their kids and than the newness wears off and they are discarded. Thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention.

Like some of us would do, is to put out an ad for anyone that wants to get rid of the animals after Easter. I'd prefer to eat them if they are big enough or raise them out to sell or to eat.

I didn't get a chance to read the article, but I have already told a couple of people who wanted to buy chicks for their kids for Easter that I would not sell them for Easter but would be happy to provide them with healthy chicks 5 days after Easter, providing they promise to build a coop and handle them responsibly. Both people have declined to buy chicks AFTER Easter, which tells me they viewed them as disposable, not living creatures that have to be cared for responsibly.
