I enjoyed talking to a teenager about what's important in their world

!!

It's called having an open mind , try it sometime .
You have a point, some posts on here aren't for everyone, and once you realize it's not for you, move on instead of inciting a fight. I opened it thinking there was something recently found out about silkies that made them bad for you or something. But I was pulled into the drama that unfolded shortly after, and it was a fun distraction.

I found it encouraging to see so many different opinions, but most of the opinions agreed that we should know where our food comes from. I personally have a flock of dual-purpose birds, and I raised these birds with the intention of breeding them for my own meat. It's going to cost me a bit more than buying my chicken at the grocery store, but I know what's in it and have a clear conscience about how they were treated.

This is a great forum for teens to be involved in, IMO mainly because of the types of people we have on here.

Yep, I agree!

There are a LOT of teens on here, I know dozens. It's a really wonderful site for all ages, there's so much to learn!

When I saw the pictures and films about how horrible condition is the Chicken farm or factories, I cried for days. I try my best to keep my chickens happy and healthy. Hopefully they can live as long as they want; even when they are old and not laying any eggs, I would just keep them as pets and for their manure (great for my garden). I am an all time vegetarian, no meat from any animals, no fish either, only very little dairy products since the cows are abused in the farm, and milk is not healthy for me anyway. I cannot stay away from chicken eggs, because I have 24 hens.

If you feel sorry for the chickens and the farm animals, then try to cut down or cut off meat and dairy consumption. If no customers want to buy it, then no farm or factories would raise them. End of their misery.

The title of Don't Eat Silkies was meant to say, "I Don't Eat Silkies" not to say "Anyone Don't Eat Silkies". Everyone is their own boss and they eat what they want and when they want. It was just my opinion and was not meant to cause any alarm.
