Don't feed your chickens ,Chicken

To put animal protien in any feed it must be fully cooked. One of the companies I worked for had a feed mill. One also must be federally permited to use it and that is closely monitored.

As far as an outbreak of BSE in Tx. there was one cow found. She Tested Neg. three times for BSE and the fourth test came up positive. Out of her 100 or so offspring all but one was traced down and all tested Neg. for BSE after being destroyed which is the only way to test them. As for compensation you get fair market price, no matter what you paid for the animal. Say you have an Angus bull that you gave 50,000 dollars for and they are found to have BSE. You will get about .50 a pound for it or 1,000 dollars.

The disese most monitored in swine is Psudo-Rabies. The Trichinosis is a worm, a round worm to be exact. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trichinosis

BSE
, CJD and CWD are all caused by Prions and the result of infection is having brain tissue that looks like a sponge.

The
really sad thing is that all samples must be sent to the UK for confirmation which takes up to 90 days. That's a long time to have offspring of a diseased animal out there.

I was living in France (1995-1996) when it was discovered that the UK has been shipping their tainted beef to (primarily) France & Holland. I jokingly told a friend that I was waiting to see how long it took before fast food restaurants posted signs that said their beef wasn't tainted.

It took about 1 week for the signs to appear.

I've only recently started giving blood again as a result of having lived in Europe during the mad cow scare. I was denied for a long time.

Bravo. That is almost exactly what we do. If cooked chicken has been in the fridge too long, rather than throw it away we feed it to the chickens. This chicken has been cooked and there is no brain matter in it.

We are also one of those people who feeds the wasted parts of processing meat birds to our flock. The only parts that get wasted are the heads, feet, and feathers.

Our dogs eat chicken soup every day, even if it's just a light stock I made with left over bones. We even grind up the bones and feed it to the dogs or chickens as a calcium supplement. They love it

I feed my chickens chicken of anything comes off my table....chicken noodle soup, chicken n rice soup, etc. and be sure to grind or cut meat in small pieces and they just LOVE it!

Its no way chickens will get "Mad Chicken Disease*

HI! We in the UK are told not to feed any meat products to our chickens (although I know some people still do give them table scraps). It isn't allowed in commercial feeds either! You are still allowed to feed them fish of course. My cat gets all the meat scraps & the chickens get the rest--it works out fine!

What makes you think any meat is safe? Blood, manure and slaughterhouse waste are still fed to our farm animals. Also to our household pets. Not very many cows are even tested for BSE so I do not believe, for good reason, that our meat supply is safe. Why do you think so many other countries will not touch imported US meat?

Many diseases people have today may be linked to BSE. Until there is more testing done and a more transperant USDA system, nobody will know for sure. The laws are set in place to protect the large corporations, and that includes not unveiling the real truth about our food system.

The people in New Guinea died of a prion disease similar to CJD but by a different name. They quit eating the brains, and there are no more cases there.

Without reading the whole thread, and to answer the OP...

No, I just can't feed chicken to my chickens.

Two different thigns going on. Nearly every nation in the world does import US beef. The BSE thing halted temporarilty shipments to Korea, Japan, etc. Rules have been worked out now.

The second thing is the hormone treatment of our beef cattle. In most commercial operations (feedlots), they cut off a bull calves knackers then implant hormones in their ear. Residuals from these hormones have been shown to pass along to people eating the beef. Many people would argue it makes no difference. I just don't know. We raise hormone free beef on purpose.

The chicken hawk (birds) love the chickens they kill and eat in the neighborhood to the south of us. Imagine that, birds eating birds.
