This is a complete falsehood.

The regulations regarding feeding animal products relate to feeding ruminat products back to ruminants. With these regulations, virtually every feed mill in the USA only uses porcine or poultry meat or meat and bone meal for livestock feeds.

You should read the regulations before make statements about legality.

Jim

so..you are telling me it is completly legal to feed raw pork to the pigs that we get in the supermarkets???? that's very scary then..very scary indeed!....guess its time for me to start raising my own pigs for meat then,..if what you say is true...thanks!, Wendy

ANY animal / meat byproducts fed back to livestock is now required to be cooked first, temperatures of somewhere around 140-150 F kills the parasite. Thanks to the knowledge level of producers, the regulations, and the inspection processes in place to back it up, trichanosis is practically unheard of in the US anymore.

Home farmers used to feed all sorts of raw offal and garbage to their hogs, on the assumption that waste was bad and if they'll eat it, it's ok. They'd feed 'clean' feed the last couple weeks before they butchered, to 'cleanse' the hog, but of course by then the damage was done and the parasite was established.

okay,thats so good to know!

....because as i explained in several of my posts in this thread..i specified RAW or UNDERCOOKED pork.....i never said it was illegal to to feed cooked pork to them.(thats just stupid..and makes no sense, really..

I have never fed my chickens chicken because that just sounds aweful, but on this website today i read that a good treat to your chicken is meat. so is it okay to feed your chickens ground beef or something? I havent yet but I thought that if there were scraps sometime and they realy like it I might.

Don't have time to read 6 pages of replies but did anybody mention other culprits of mad cow disease was feeding the poor cows feed which included rendered animals and NEWSPAPER!

Instead of MCD they should of named it "Stupid People Induced Disease".
Feeding omnivore chickens cooked chicken meat is not an abomination.
We've fed our chickens table scraps (which included chicken, beef etc) for years with no incident and they gobble it up with gusto.

I saw a documentary, that said that less than 10th of all cattle in the US are actually inspected for wholesomeness, In fact, Oprah was sued when she made a similar story known.

Of course, the Texas cattle industry lost their case, when it was determined that what she said was true, and therefore, not libel/slander.

I've seen SEVERAL reports about complaints from US inspectors that they have to view cattle from platforms way above thousands, and thousands of animals, and somehow, they're supposed to verify that the cattle are healthy that way!

In Japan - 100% of cattle are inspected.

Very scary, and the reason that I only eat beef from local farmers.
