He's pretty much just wiggling around, he's made the membrane hole larger on his own to get his whole beak out almost. Every once in awhile he let's out a huge chirp and twitches like he's trying to break through shell that's not there. Even breathing rhythm, doesn't seem stressed, not gasping. What's his movement like?
What a ride! I'd say you've done everything in your power to give a chick that would otherwise not have been able to hatch a fighting chance. Hoping for good news (and pics) today!!!
Thank you for the support, so glad I joined the forum, I just HAD to be able to talk about this hatch with people who get it.
Chick update: even though I added some water to keep the humidity up, it dropped down to 50% when I woke up and the remaining shell was stuck to the chick, chick was chirping up a storm and flopping around though, so still going! Took out chick, moistened up the shell where it was stuck and it wiggled itself free. I am concerned (again lol) because the yolk doesn't seem to have fully been absorbed. There's no bleeding or oozing, so taking that as a good sign, there's just a bubble at its navel.

Question:
I've read conflicting statements about what do to regarding a navel with yolk that isn't completely absorbed, some say keep it dry, others say moisten with ointment, I could use some suggestions here.
I use one dab of Neosporin, early on, then leave it to dry up. Kinda depends on the size of it, but from what I can tell from the pic, it doesn't look very large. Keep him on something soft and I think you will be surprised how fast it disappears!
Congrats!![]()

This chick is going to be so spoiled, I literally feel like I have given birth because I haven't really slept in the last 4 days thanks to hatch anxiety and my back/neck are killing me from hunching to constantly check on him in the incubator. Dabbed some neosporin on the bubble and around the edges, chick decided it was the perfect time to start trying to stand up and almost fell out of my hand, fighter for sure. Anyhow, has a nice comfy "mattress" of paper towel and is chirping up a storm and trying to stand in the incubator. Probably going to keep him in there until this evening because while I hoped for the best, was expecting the worst and didn't set the brooder up yet. So gotta get on that.
