Don't know egg age in incubator

Pics
Got any names picked out yet?
Well right now his nickname has been F*cker :lau...But I want to get past the 48hr mark first. Thinking Ziggy Stardust though, big David Bowie fan and it's androgynous. Obviously Ziggy for short. Bout to go down to the farm store and get some feed, been so busy just keeping him alive that I never got any.

Thank you for this conversation! I have my first batch of eggs in the incubator, and am super excited!
Good luck! I hope it goes 100% better than this hatch I just went through. I have a beautiful Maran chick so can't complain too much. Had to set up a smaller makeshift brooder out of a clothes basket because the 120gallon fish tank I'd planned to use is much too large for such a small chick. It's drinking water on its own, still got a little drying to do, but everything is looking good so far. Except it's feet seem curled up, going to give it til tomorrow and if they don't straighten out chick is getting some shoes.

Well it looks like he might not need shoes, his toes are straightening out on their own :D, he's also started pooping and they're good, healthy poops, no pasty butt. The leftover yolk fully absorbed and he just has a little scab that I've been checking on to make sure there's no infection. Optimistic that he's out of the woods of danger, eating and drinking well, yelling at me for attention and following me around in the brooder. I'm really hoping he's a she because I can only keep hens in my area and after all this I'm rather attached to the little thing.

I've decided on a name! Mort, short for Morticia, that way it works either way. Call me superstitious, but I feel like if I keep referring to the chick as a him then it'll be a girl because it thinks I want it to be a boy and you know how it is when you're convinced it's a girl and then ends up being a boy xD
