View attachment 1037056 View attachment 1037064 Hello, we're new chicken owners. Thanks in advance for your help. Our chicks arrived May 10th.

In the first photo, the chick on the left is the smallest of 16 chicks, I named it Baby. Small, feathering out last, no tail yet. Great appetite, does that "chest bump" thing with other chicks. He also walks around the brooder with his neck extended, looking through the wire, like he's on the lookout for danger. My DH and I think that he is the rooster we asked for in our order, but would like an expert's opinion! :D

Second photo shows feet. We *ordered* buff and white Orpingtons. The white chicks are huge compared to the buffs. The whites also have bluish grey feet. The buffs have obviously yellow feet. My understanding is that Orpingtons have white feet. "I'm so confused!"

Would you educate me, please, and shed some light on what we have, here? Thanks again.
Yup! The small one is a rooster. The ones in the backyard look like amereaucanas. Could you post pics of them?

I do think that is a cockerel, though he's a little young for me to be 100% so please update in a couple weeks. ;)

Orpingtons have white skin. If you look on the bottom of their feet, you should be able to see it. Or maybe between their feathers. It can be hard to tell on the legs.

This is "Blackie" ( I am very imaginative with names, as you can tell!). Sent to us as an "extra" in our order. A beautiful Black Cochin (has the moon boot feathers...) I'm suspecting a cockerel, as well. Thoughts?

Could be a cockerel, but not enough comb to say yet - will be more obvious when he's older. I'm the same with names when I name...lol.

They look like mixed orpingtons to me. Maybe white mixed with lavender

They wouldn't look like that. Time will tell with these, I think,
